Hubby was robbed at the gym this morning

My Husband goes to the gym at 5am everyday, he doesnt go in flashing any jewelery or what not, everything goes in his shoe, in his bag and locked in a locker. this morning he comes back to take a shower and sees his socks and is was like *****? He sees his lock is busted open, his wallet was open they took the $80 cash he had but left all the credit cards, he checks his shoe...his wedding band and rolex are gone! This gym has had a rash of break-ins, so much so it was featured in the paper. You would think that they would have someone whose sole job is to patrol the locker room but no. So now at 5 am the gym is practically empty, majority of the people are in the spin class with DH. Could it have been an employee? The cops were called and he is still with them, they are going over the video survelliance, and since the rolex was over $8000 and the wedding band was $1200 its grand larceny. Thank God he saves receipts for everything. I'm so upset about his wedding band Chat Icon

Someone at the gym told him to sue the gym because they are liable since he took precautions to protect his property and the gym is negligent since theft is very common there. I really dont care about suing them I just want his ring back (its inscribed, hopefully if this piece of $hit tries to sell it we'll be notified)

Sorry that this happened, but most importantly is that DH was not hurt in any way.

At my gym, we all have our gym ids zapped on our way in. Since it was soooo early, there are only a limited number of people in the gym at that time, and the employees. Should not be too hard to narrow the pool of suspects down with other days where burglaries have occurred. I bethca if the cops look back and match up attendance and the employees' work schedule, owith the date and times of the burglaries, only a few names wil come up.

Hopefully, since its grand larceny, they will put a good detective on the case. This could easily be solved by some good police work!

Can I ask what town youre in and what PD is investigating?

Re: Hubby was robbed at the gym this morning

im sorry about all that.... but i dont feel like he is a victim.... you stated you KNEW that this place has had a rash of break-ins, so much so that it was on the news.... and he continued to bring his wallet and ROLEX with him???? at 5am... leave that stuff either at home or in the car!!!!

i personally frequent the gym and make a point not to bring ANYTHING with me that i care about... the only things i bring are my keys and phone, both of which never leave my site....

again, im sorry and as long as he is ok then he came out a winner...

look on the bright side, at least they left the CCs and ID etc... you dont have to worry about ID Theft on top of all that!!!

While leaving the Rolex at home would probably have been a good idea, it sounds like he locked his stuff up....even if he didn't, he still is a victim of theft.

Sorry that happened to your DH...I hope they find the wedding ring, that would upset me too! Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Hubby was robbed at the gym this morning

That is awful! I am so sorry it happened to your DH, but as the other posters said, thankfully he is safe. I think Rolex watches have ID numbers on them. If he has that I would notify Rolex that it was stolen. If someone tries to have it repaired it will come up flagged as stolen.

eta:
When sending info on your stolen Rolex, please make sure to be as detailed as possible in your description.
The following info is recommended:

The Watch's Model or Style (i.e. Datejust, Day-Date, Submariner, etc...)
Case Material (i.e. stainless steel, 18k yellow gold, white gold, platinum, etc...)
Dial Color (any diamonds?)
Bezel Style/Color (any diamonds?)
Bracelet Style (i.e. Oyster, Jubilee, President, leather strap)
Model Number (AKA Case Reference Number)
Serial Number.

The owner's NAME & contact info (a phone number and email is prefered).
When and where the watch was stolen. Was it an eBay scam?
We would also like to know if a police report was filed and if Rolex has been notified.
If a reward is being offered you should also include that info.

Again, the more detailed you are in your description the better the chances are for recovering your watch.

Please Note: While this service was created to help you recover your stolen Rolex items,
you should ALWAYS report your stolen items to the local athorities. Furthermore, stolen
Rolex items should ALSO be reported directly to Rolex (1-800-36-ROLEX), as they maintain
a stolen watch database, which they check whenever a watch is sent in for service.

No enemies, nothing personal.

But you just said the same thing again. It's not your fault if an @sshole commits a crime.

does the same apply to a woman jogging in a park who is attacked? Is that HER fault bc she went jogging alone? I hardly think so, would that be YOUR fault?

Regardless of what he brought with him, he took all proper precautions and was the victim of a crime. He did not do anything, the perpetrator DID.
