Morgan Avery May 22, 2010

Sorry, it's long, just trying to chronicle everything for DD one day!

On Friday the 21st at work, I started feeling contractions around every 14 minutes or so. I didn't mention it to anyone but my boss who said that tomorrow would be the day. I told him that I hoped so!

I had already scheduled my induction for the next Thursday, and after the debacle with getting the doctor that I didn't want, then getting it changed, I was still hoping that I would go into labor on my own.

So that Friday night, I went to my mom's house to pick B up, and had my DH meet me there because I really wanted a greek salad for dinner, so we all went out for dinner. At dinner I continued with the contractions, so my mom was really hopeful that I was going into labor. We finished dinner, then my parents came back to my house so my dad and DH could continue working on our stairs. When they left for the night, my mom told us that if I go into labor, to call them, they would pick up my MIL who doesn't drive, and they would be over to watch B until he woke up.

At around 12 am, B started crying, so I got up, gave him a pacifier, and he went back off to sleep. I layed down and felt contractions, but fell asleep again. Then at 2 am, I woke up during a contraction and started to time them from my bed. They were coming up every 4 minutes or so. I didn't believe it, so after about a half an hour, I came downstairs to time them on the computer, and after 4 contractions, I went back upstairs to tell DH. I woke him up by saying, "Babe, I think we need to call the doctor." His response, "Why?" Chat Icon Chat Icon . He was sleeping, so after I told him I was in labor, he got up and I called the doctor. While I was waiting for the doctor to call back, the contractions were getting stronger. We then called our parents to let them know, then I took a shower.

We had everything ready for our parents to take DS up to the hospital if they needed it, and we met them outside by the car because I really wanted to get to the hospital. After we left, DH asked me if he wanted me to take the side roads....I snapped at him, all I needed was us getting a flat tire and trying to explain to our parents what side road we were on.Chat Icon .

Once I got to the hospital, they checked me, I was 4 cm. I was excited to see the doctor on call was a doctor I did like. An hour later, my nurse came in and told me that she was changing shifts, I would be getting a new nurse AND a new doctor-the dreaded doctor that I did not want---Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon I looked at DH after the nurse left and was like you have to be kidding me!!! What are the freakin chances!!!!! When that doctor came in, she was very nice, checked me, and I was 5 cm! A short time later, they decided to give me pitocin to make the contractions 2-3 minutes apart because I was still contracting 4 minutes apart.

We called our parents to let them know to come up to the hospital because they said we would have the baby around 11. I got my epidural during this time because the contractions started to get very painful. This time getting it was a little harder because I didn't have the Demerol in me before hand, so I felt a little more. But the benefits outweighed the pain I could have felt. I was checked again, and was told I was 8 cm!!!! Our parents and my siblings came in to see me, and the nurse also sat me up because they said every time I had a contraction, the baby came down, but then would float back up.

The doctor came in and told me that within the hour, I'd probably be ready, but that she wanted to check me one more time. I told her that I was feeling immense pressure, so I thought the baby was coming. She checked, and I was fully dilated!!! They started scrambling to set up the room and get all suited up for delivery.

The nurse set up the stirrups and asked me if I remembered how to push. She wanted to see one test push. So I did, and I was told that the baby's head was RIGHT THERE and to stop pushing! DH said he could see a lot of hair, but he couldn't tell me how much hair, so I had to wait to see myself.

2 minutes after I tried pushing, the doctor was ready to go. I asked if it was too late to change my mind. Everyone chuckled. Chat Icon The doctor asked me to push, so I did, and I was then told the baby was crowning Chat Icon j. I was told to push one more time as hard as I could and all of a sudden I had a baby on my chest crying and wiggling away. I asked what we had and everyone yelled out GIRL!!!! The tears started streaming down my face, I was so excited to have a little girl to add to our family. The nurse told me that I was made to have babies. At 9:41 am, Morgan Avery was born at 7 lbs 14 oz, 20.5 inches long with a head of black hair that was out of this world! She went home with a barrette in her hair!

I did receive a 2nd degree tear again, probably in the same spot that I tore with DS. After I was all cleaned up, DD was cleaned up, our families came in for about an hour to meet her. I was then told that a old childhood friend just had a baby girl 15 mintues before me, our parents saw each other in the waiting room.

DS got to meet his sister for the first time, was willing to give her kisses, but otherwise didn't want anything to do with her.

It took around 4 hours for them to bring Morgan to me once I was in Maternity because they said she might be slightly jaundiced, but had to do some tests. Turns out she was, but just slightly, so she didn't need to go under lights.

Over the next 2 days, she did have some trouble with the pre-made formula that the hospital provides, but I figured it was the same issue that DS had, and that she would be fine on powdered formula. I was right. Once she got home, she kept the formula down and has been doing very well. DS has been doing very well with her, he is adjusting well. He gives her kisses, and tells everyone 'mine' and 'baby'. DD does wake him up at night when she cries, but that seems to be getting better. Amazingly, this little girl could sleep through a tornado if she had to.

I was also prepared to be up every 2 hours like with DS, but she eats at 10 pm, then wakes up at around 3/3:30 am, then wakes up at 7!! It is so nice to be able to get some sleep myself!! I finally have a good sleeper!!!

We are so very happy, and are enjoying our growing family. Here she is, our little girl and her big brother.
