5 yr. old DS with blood & protein in his urine
DS has been screaming in agony when he pees and has peed out some blood. Very scary. Tested negative for bacteria/UTI. Dr. thinks may be spasms stemming from a virus and it needs to work itself out. It is torture for both of us. Has anyone experienced this. I feel so helpless.

what about pyridium? It helps with bladder spasms in females....I would assume it would be the same in males. Not sure if it is approved for kids but they might have a childrens addition....

Yes!- our doctor just called in a prescription for this. Praying it works!! Just gave him his first dose tonight.

It definitely helps! My sin and this after kidney surgery. Pee turns reddish orange though, so beware!

Did you think to get a second opinion? Your post worries me like what if its not just that? Sometimes these drs make errors. Sounds painful. Hope he feels better

Thanks everyone! He was in agony all night (when he peed) and peed so much blood. I ended up seeing his doctor and going to urologist today. The did sono. All agree about the virus. His bladder is inflamed. He is finally getting some relief with the pyridium! Scary stuff.

Everything here is stained orange. Underwear, pj's, rug, mattress, etc. The worst part is it didn't even help My boy is still in agony every time he pees and they said it's from an adenovirus. Bladder and urethra inflamed. Can't do anything about it. He's up every 2 hours peeing all over himself and crying. Worse than when i had a newborn. I'm starting to lose it and there's no end in sight. they say usually lasts a week (which it's been) to 2 but as long as 3 months! We are miserable.

Try buying black or navy undies, pants, so it doesn't stain.

Your poor little boy!! I am praying for him- I had a similar issue 3 weeks ago where I had an infection that was so bad I ended up with a catheter for 6 days, and I had little to no relief from antibiotics. I am wondering now if I had a similar virus.

Thanks everyone. DH just ran to the store to buy him those Good Nights underpants (basically for older kids who wet the bed). I'm hoping this at least saves us from having to strop his bed every night and wash everything. I spoke to dr.s again today and basically all we can do is wait it out. Torture I appreciate the well wishes.

Nope=(. They Just said Motrin/Tylenol but it does nothing for him so it's not even worth it.
