Hi!
My daughter is 5 1/2 months and has been sleeping through the night since she was 10 weeks. She's a great baby. She naps usually a half hr to hr in the am and recently has been sleeping about 2 hrs in the pm. At night, she gets sleepy, so I've been trying to get her to go to sleep earlier, by 8pm. We used to give her a nap around 6ish, but she's protesting :) because she's so aware and likes to be awake, though rubs her eyes and we know she is tired. Here's the problem: I've been trying to nurse her around 7pm, but the past two nights, she wakes up at 4am to nurse and then goes right back to sleep an hr later for about 2 hrs. She used to wake up around 5:30 or 6 and be up for an hr and go back for 2 hrs. The 4am wake-up is frustrating - I think it's too coincidental that she just started this when we eliminated a 6th nursing session.
My question: Now she is on 2 solid feeding a day (oatmeal with fruit or veg) and I've decreased nursings to 5x from 6x a day. The ped recommended this. Today, she recommended to add a third meal or go back to 6 nursings which I don't want to do. Last night, we gave her an add'l 3 oz of formula before she went to bed but it didn't work. Maybe she's going through a growth spurt? Today, I decided to give her pears as a second solids and will feed her solids again at dinner. Once I went down to 5x/day of nursing, her waking up time has gotten earlier.
Anyone have a similar issue? Any suggestions? Should I give her solids three times a day and nurse her 5 times? Or should Igive her 2 solid meals, 5x nursing, and a 6oz bottle of formula. She seemed hungry for the solids at lunch today. I know I have to play around with it and all babies are different, but any suggestions would be great. Sorry so long. I just feeling like she's just eating all day!
