4th Birthday Party at Michaels

I hosted them when I part timed at Michaels.

I made up games for the kids to play using the crowns we have them to toss wadded up balls into. The craft the parents picked was WAY too hard and too fast for the age we had. So I had to make up a lot of the time.

Our store was 'smallish' and it is not allowed to just drop off kids and run but that's exactly what the parents of most of the kids did. In a way it was a good thing because there wasn't enough room in that party room for parents and kids.

We gave the kid a VERY big and full basket of crafts as a gift (again our store not company policy per se).

We decorate, we entertain, we clean up.

Its just HARD to entertain two hours by yourself with kids if there's no games. Craft just wasn't enough. But this was an older child.

I think 4 should be ok. Just make it a paint type craft and they'll sit at it for a good half hour if not more. Food and cake can take up another half hour or so. The boy at our party didn't intend to open the gifts there but it was decided because it took some more time off the clock.

PS: Tip your hostess.. they get there a half hour early and can't leave until that room is back in its pre-decorated original state. LOL

I hated the mom who left her three kids (two way too old for the party) and would NOT pick them up. Just waved her hand at me while she chit chatted on her cell phone. The pre-teen boy of hers just put his ipod on and ignored me as I tried to sweep. Just me with 14 kids with most around 3-4th grade seemed a bit much but I like kids so I think we all had fun. I got all the kids to sign a paper like "great party, thanks for inviting me, had fun, happy bday" etc and gave that to the parents.

Key is choose a good craft!

If you need to, you are allowed to go back out and pick more crafts. Michaels ALWAYS has $1 wood shaped frames you can paint to hearts desire and just buy some other embellishments and its a whole new craft. Don't be afraid to ask the hostess to help you get more craft stuff. At least at my store we all wear radios and honestly birthday parties are always top priority as its prospective customers, so you need it - we get it for you.

Have fun!

4th Birthday Party at Michaels

My DD had her 7th birthday at Michael's in Massapequa. It was GREAT!!! The kids had so much fun. We ordered pizza in and I made cupcakes. The woman running it was so good with the kids. I would definitely recommend it.

Theoretically you only pay to 'rent' the room and the hostess comes along with it. In our store its $50. You then buy all the craft stuff. Make sure to ask if they have any discounts for bulk purchase. Since our party mom ordered 15 sets of everything we gave her 10% off the already sale price of the item she was buying. They do have 'packages' which are priced to include the room and supply costs. You can pick one of their themes and pay that or you can just pick your own craft.

I think depending on what craft you choose, it would be great for a four year old. My younger DD came to the party and she was almost 4... she had a great time.

It was $50 for the room and the person to help you. They also gave me invitations, thank you cards, and goodie bag tags. The lady was so awesome I also tipped her $20. We spent about $75 on the craft, and then about $50 for pizza, drinks, cups, plates, etc. It was under $200 for the entire shebang.

The room definitely can't hold 30 kids. I had 15 and it was really pushing it.

Can't agree more with this comment!!!

I wanted AJ's party there but then realized quickly over 15 or so it was going to be so crammed and not fun. So I went somewhere else. Ironically so many no-showed I was left with 12 kids in a HUGE place all by themselves.. great fun for them.. slightly expensive per kid for me! LOL
