Anyone remember the ones with the BLOW UP head thingys? I think they were called KOOKY costumes...I have to see if I can find them.

OMG! I had too many of those!
My earliest memory was when my mom got me - I didn't CHOOSE it naturally -  a stupid costume of HOWDY DOODY's SISTER!  I mean, come on!!! I was a child of the 80's!! Howdy Doody?!?!?! (Can't find the costume, but she basically had blond hair...)
The worst though....RIN TIN TIN. Yes, the dog. I wore that stupid mask around town (with no complaint, I was a good girl. Didn't even complain about Howdy Doody - guess I was pretty young then and thought I was cool  ) So I wore that awful mask of this german shepard....and I remember a little boy hysterically crying anytime he was near me!
Finally I DID get to pick one- Strawberry Shortcake in 2nd grade. But that was the year I got pneumonia and had to miss Halloween.

on another note- you must read Jerry Seinfelds Halloween book, it comes with a CD of him telling the story (its a childrens book) and its hilarious because he describes how these plastic costumes...it reminds me so much of when i was little lol

when i was a kid, my mother would make our costumes... and they were GREAT... she'd sew them etc etc.
I remember getting p*ssed and complained that I wanted the cheap plastic ones from the store because that's what all my friends had...

What great memories!! I loved those costumes.. totally sucked for breathing lol. most of the time the mask was on the top of your head... otherwise you would pass out or get hit by a car b/c you couldnt see.. I loved those costumes tho.. i miss them.
eta: this casper one was worn by all 3 of kids in my house.. i laugh at the box saying flame retarted... its plastic!!
My favirote was a garfield one.. i wripped the plastic body part square dancing after school.. i was soo upset i couldnt wear trick or treating.. cant find pic of it.
