Gavin Anthony 8-14-08
As I had previously posted I had a long labor (meaning contracting for a couple of months ). At my 37.5 week apt my Dr found I was 3cm dialted, my cervix was very short and the head was very low. She said my cervix was "ready" and could go at any time. If I hadn't gone into labor at my next apt they would sned me to the hospital to get the ball rolling. I made my apt for the following Friday (8/15).
On Wednesday Logan and I went to the beach with some friends. When we got home I did laundry, changed the sheets on the beds, vaccummed and washed the floor. I started feeling a lot of cramping but have been feeling cramiping all along so just kept going. I made dinner and while eating was feeling extra crampy (but of course didn't stop eating!). I started to really notice it around 6pm and started having cramping in my lower back. I was CONVINCED it was gas pains. I've been ahving some constipation problems so I've been taking Miralax which is a lifesaver!) and was convinced it was kicking in. The cramps started to get more intense but I was still convinced it was gas. At about 9:30 DH convinced me to call the Dr. We got to the hospital at 10pm and I was 5 cm and contracting every 2 minutes. When I got to 6cm I got the epidural which again was WONDERFUL! I got the 7cm and stayed there for about 20 minutes. When the Dr checked me at first she said my membranes were gone but when she checked me again at 7cm she saw there was still some there so she cleared it out (with a stick ). Once the rest of my water broke it went FAST!! By that time it was an hour after the epi and I wanted more but within a few minutes I was at 9cm and she said no more So needless to say I felt A LOT and screamed A LOT! . The pain in my back got so intense I HAD to push, there was no stopping it!! 15 minutes later baby Gavin was born (although we didn't have a name until THE DAY WE WERE LEAVING THE HOSPITAL ).
My recovery has been wonderful b/c again I had no tearing or cutting, LOVE MY DOCTORS . But I've had some big problems with my back (same happend with my first). It seems when I labor I really mess up my coxic(sp?) bone so my lower back kills me when I sit and get up or shift myslef when sitting. Last time it took about 6 weeks to heal, hopefully it will be less time this time around.
Gavin is doing wonderfully. SO far the worst night was the first, since then he has slept from 11 or so till 3 or so then gets up about 7:30 (thanks to the Miracle Blanket!!!!!). When we left the hospital he was 7lb 5oz. We went to the Dr Tues and he was 8lb 7oz...which honestly I can't even see how it is possible....3 days and gained a pound?!?! I honestly think the scale was wrong.
I forgot to mention I gave birth at Mercy. When I called my Dr I asked to go to South Nassau and she said I had to go to Mercy b/c she was on call there for another Dr. I was disappointed but that's where I had my first so I knew what to expect. I have to say my experience this time was AMAZING!! My labor nurse was the best, so sweet and helpful. The nurses in the metenity ward were all great and the lactation nurse was amazing and came to check on me like 3 times a day even though I nursed my first and didn't really need help. The best part is I again had my own room!!! I have to say I'm really happy I ended up at Mercy and was sad to leave.
Well, I didn't think it was possilbe to love a second as much as the first but oh my God I'm soooooooooo in love with this little man. And Logan couldn't be better with him. He's always hugging and kissing him and telling him how much he loves him. It's so sweet . BUT he keeps telling everyone his name is Cody (which was our other name) or Curious George .
