Re: 21 months and still drinks a bottle
We had to go cold turkey and even then the only cup he would use was the Nuby Sport sipper. I bought every cup out there, straws, soft tops, hard tops, you name it.
And when I say cold turkey, he didn't drink a drop of anything for 2 1/2 days. He's a stubborn boy. But, we decided it was time because we were dealing with a speech delay and eating problems that were aggravated by the bottle. He was mad! And the one that finally got him to take it was the daycare teacher, but eventually he got thirsty enough to drink it. I was giving him a lot of wet food so he wouldn't get dehydrated.
The day he drank out of an open cup a few months later, I tossed every sippie we had.

Re: 21 months and still drinks a bottle
I started with morning bottle, this little trick seems to be working for us.
I used the same straw sippy he prefers for water, and another sippy he used to like to use.
I put milk in both, and say "no more bottles left, we only have cups, which one do you want?" He agonizes, whines a bit, but ultimately chooses one and drinks. In the morning he's pretty hungry and thirsty and will take it. First time only drank half, but second time gulped it down to a few drops.
I think every baby is different, and every mommy too. For me I hate bottles and sippies, the sooner he's drinking from glass cups with us, the better. The reason why, when I was a baby I drank from glass and ceramic cups, why shouldn't he. I hate plastic to tears.
I plan to phase it out, its just less stressful.

Not that I am at all qualified here, considering I have a 12 month old who uses me as a paci and refuses bottles, but this is what I remember when I freak out thinking my DD is going to BF until college-I know no high schooler, middle schooler, or even elementary schooler who uses a bottle or BFs.
I may be wrong, but I would let her have the bottle and in a few months when you can reason with her, get the bottle fairy to take her bottles and leave her a special toy!
I agree. I might get flamed but I admit DD is 3.4 and still drinks her milk in a bottle. She has 2-3 bottles of millk a day. She will drink anything else from a regular cup but she refuses to drink her milk unless it's in a bottle. She is a super picky eater so IMO she needs her milk so I let her drink it the only way she wants to. I've tried the cute cups, bribing, etc and it didn't work so for now she will be drinking it in a bottle. I'm pretty sure she won't be in HS or college drinking milk from a bottle. Maybe it's a Hispanic thing too because I find we are not so fast to pull the bottles away from our kids...it's really not a huge deal. My little cousin drank from a bottle until he was 4 and turned out perfectly fine.

Re: 21 months and still drinks a bottle
You're not alone! My DD was drinking milk from a bottle until her second birthday.. I don't remember exactly but it was either a month before or a month after. She REFUSED sippy cups with milk in them.
I actually gave up trying until she was 2 because my ped said it was more important that she have the milk than be off the bottle. Then I miraculously managed to get her to go to bed without having that last bottle for about a week or so... after that she asked for milk and since it had been a week already without it, I told her she could only have milk in a Take n Toss sippy cup.. from then on she was okay with it and she started drinking milk in a cup in the mornings as well.

Re: 21 months and still drinks a bottle
I tried to take my kids away about 12 months and they weren't having it. At 2 I took the bottles away and switched to sippies and no problems. Don't stress it. This is one of those things I don' worry about it...what harm is it doing really? As long as you don;t let him take the bottle to bed and brush his teeth after the bottle I don't see the big problem
