Great job, Kling!

There is still a month of the year to go, so I'm not counting it over yet! Plenty can be done before the new year.

I'm very happy. I'm down 87 pounds so far this year, for a total of 152 lost. If I keep on track, I should hit my goal mid 2019. Chat Icon

Awesome! Great job!

DH and I have been on WW for a year.
It's been slow going, we are members of the Turtle Club, but we are each down 25 pounds. We still have a long way to go, but do not have any desire to quit the program. This is the first time that DH has ever followed a structured plan and it is working for him. We are both older, so losing weight is not as easy as when we were younger.
I am so proud of DH.

Best yet, DH's A1C went down significantly because of his better eating habits and he is no longer pre-diabetic. I haven't logged in to see my numbers yet.

only about three weeks left in the year, but i'll jump in... because i only recently started to move again.

i am so happy!
i'm back in the gym... it's similar to crossfit and i love it.

this is my 5th week there and i've already progressed enough to do a lot of the exercises i didn't think i'd be able to do. yay!

as of this morning, i've lost 17.5 pounds and my knees no longer hurt when i go down stairs or when i sit down.

here's to ending 2018 strong and kicking 2019's ass!

Can I ask about your knees?
I have shittty knees. They hurt when I walk down stairs, they creak and crackle when I bend down, I have a hard time getting up if I am squatting to get something out of a low cabinet, etc.
I know I am on my way to arthritis or something- it runs in my family and the creaking and cracking is not a good sign.

I really shy away from exercise because I feel like it makes it worse- or I worry I will injure them more.

What kind of exercises have you done that you feel has helped your knees?

When you were doing them, did they aggravate your knees any more at first?

the gym i'm going to is like crossfit in that they do different activities every day. they do try to rotate things... legs, upper body, full body.

#1. i modify. every time the trainer shows an exercise that i know will hurt, i raise my hand and ask for a modification. usually, that means no jumping. i do all the activities, but i modify for my knees.

#2. i stretch like a mofo. i don't always have time to stretch after a workout because i'm running to get ready for work. but when i get home in the evening, i walk in place (or pace) for a few minutes to warm up, then i stretch. i stretch everything. it takes me about 30 minutes of stretching and some simple yoga poses.

#3. the weight and getting it off my body. i don't remember where i read it, but the "rule" is that you decrease 4 pounds of pressure on your knees for every 1 pound of weight you shed.

now... when i first get to the gym at 5am and start moving... EVERY MILLIMETER of my knees hurt and are screaming bloody murder... until i warm up. i am NOT able to do the same movements in the warm up that i am able to do at the end of the workout session.

yes, there was an ache curve to get over. weeks 2 and 3 were pretty bad. i was popping advil like m&ms, but i told my doctor every single move i was making and how hard/far i was taking it. she agreed that it was just my adjusting to the movement. i'm so glad i stuck with it.

i ache like a mofo after leg workouts, but by the following day i feel that i can run another marathon. not sure if i ever will do that again... but for now, going down the stairs at work and not crying with every step is a good place to be. i might work my way back up to a 5k next year.

almost forgot, i've learned that part of my pain is a crooked hip. my legs are not the same length, so my hip is lower on my right. this has brought on t-band issues and piriformis syndrome. this is also why my stretching sessions are a little long. i concentrate on those issues.

I'm down 50lbs. More than I could have imagined losing.

However, I've done it all through diet and totally fallen off the wagon with exercise. I need to get back on track to be more fit, but I just can't seem to find the time. I'm not an early riser, and I'm already waking up at 6am with my kids, so there is no way I'm getting up before that to work out. I used to fit it in after work, but I've gotten some extra duties at work, so I'm staying a little later, so by the time I get home, I do a few things around the house and then the kids are home. The only time I have is after the kids go to bed, but that's my only time to sit down and relax with DH. Sounds like a lot of excuses, right? I'm hoping after the holidays to get back on track and build some muscle.

OMG - I finally broke into the 150s (159.4)!!! I've been stuck in the 160s since April. Granted I haven't been as good as I should b/c I'm dealing with a lot of personal stuff, but I haven't been in the 150s since I had gallbladder issues years ago!

I feel like my scale is punking me. :D

Re: 2018 Accomplishments and Goals (Spin off to Accomplishments thread)

so many wonderful accomplishments!!

my challenge ended yesterday morning, with our final weigh-in. i lost a total of 23.1 pounds in six weeks.

but, as we discussed in other threads, i know that what i did is not something that is sustainable. so, i am currently working on the big picture.

i'm working on my brain, the way i view myself and the world, and why i turn to food to solve all my problems.

it's hard work, but i'm already seeing progress.

i refuse to go back to where i used to be!
