Never leave the door closed when using a Humidifier...
My Mom just called to tell me that. I had no idea. She read it in the cool mist humidifiers instructions. It said in very large, bold print NEVER CLOSE THE DOOR IF A CHILD IS SLEEPING IN THE ROOM WITH A COOL MIST HUMIDIFIER ON. IT CAUSES TOO MUCH HUMIDITY. Doing so can increase risk of SIDS.

yes, it does make the room very damp.
Some other choices are running it while they are awake and then turning it off while they sleep or running it in another room (ours is good for 1100 or 1200 sq ft--our house is 1550). So I run ours in the upstairs hallway so we all benefit from it.

Wow I never realized that either!
I have read articles referring to WARM air/vapor, heat and too many blankets... anything that would overheat can increase SIDS but who knows?

Thanks for the info. I always closed DD's door until 2 nights ago when DH complained and said it was like a rain forest in there. I thought that was the purpose of a humidifier but it sounds like too much is dangerous. I'll have to tell DH he was right.
