Re: 105.5 fever
Does she have any other symptoms? If she has the flu she isn't going to just have a fever.
What about a UTI? DS had a high fever like that when he had roseola. After 3 days the fever broke and he got a rash.

No sypmtoms other than a slightly runny nose adn she's not eating NEARLY as much as she usually does. She's nursing and drinking her sippies fine.
I'm going to hold off on the Tamiflu until we get the results of the UTI test.
Also- where did he get the rash? Eliza had a rash on her back a fw days ago- I thought perhaps her excema was acting up or she was having an allergic reaction to something.
Thanks for the advice and well wishes. Janice I ALWAYS remember your story and won't be putting her in the tub. I had febrile seizures as a child which apparently makes my kids at risk for them. I don't EVER want to go through it!!!

When do you get the UTI results? Not a dr here, but I am pretty sure in order for Tamiflu to work, it has to be given within a day or 2 of the onset of the symptoms. So IF it is the flu....if you wait too long, I don't know if it will work when you go to use it. KWIM? Please make sure waiting to use Tamiflu is ok to do in this case. I know I read that most people who get very sick with the flu didn't get the Tamiflu fast enough.
I will for you all tonight, glad she is drinking sufficiently. Poor baby.

Re: 105.5 fever
We're back at 105.
She woke up crying at about 2:30 and she was COLD. She had the chills really badly. I took her into bed with me and she snuggled up to me. We both fell asleep. She was due for her next dose of medicine at 4. She woke up at 4:30 burning up.
I gave her Tylenol and she's sleeping here next to me. I'm waiting for her fever to lessen. She nursed thankfully, so I know she's hydrated.
Goobster- her symptoms started with a low fever on Saturday night. The UTI results should be available this morning. We didn't get the Tamiflu, jst a script, so I have to waiy for the pharmacy to open anyway.
I'm usually very calm about things with my kids, but this is scary to me.

Re: 105.5 fever
I hope she feels better soon. DD also turned blue with a fever that would not quit (she was hospitalized with pneumonia at 9 mos.). They said it was bc her fever was spiking too fast for her body to react. That is good that she is nursing. I would still try to give some pedialyte if you have it. Fevers always scare me but at least her little body is trying to fight off whatever she is getting hit by.

Re: 105.5 fever
Every single thing you are describing was my DD last week ( minus the rash)...I guess they checked that her ears were clear , but so were my DD's just 2 days before a full blown double ear infection...
My DD started off w/ a 101.9 temp, runny nose...Took her to the ped on a Thurs. and ears and throat were clear...That Saturday, her fever was at 103 under the arm ( 104 rectally probably) , almost went to the ER and the next day double ear infection...No real symptoms aside from the fever, runny nose, was drinking her formula and a decrease in her solids , went from not sleeping at all to sleeping all day...She also began sounding raspy.
Is it possible an EI developed ??
Many & !!!

Yes- we had it at their babysitter's and practically half of 4th grade at my school was out with it last week.
We've all been vaccinated, but Eliza has only had the first shot, her booster was scheduled for this week.
BTW- the Tylenol only brings her down to 103.5. Is it OK to piggyback the Motrin before the 4 hours are up?

if her fever is STILL that high after 2 days of tylenol and motrin, i would bring her to ER..have you called your emergency ped number? i hope shes ok!!! thinking of you. I wouldnt piggy back before 3 hours..but even still, thats a high temp for tylenol care.

Re: 105.5 fever
this is EXACTLY whats going on right now with my 4 year old. I have to take him to the ER today for a flu swab :( he has a 104.3 fever right now despite the motrin and is complaining of body aches.. he is shaking and shivering uncontrollably and was blue around the lips and his legs last night. :( 'You can give tylenol 2 hours after the motrin

I hope she is feeling better soon and you have some answers. DD#1 used to get 104.5 and that was scary I would have freaked out with 105. I will be thinking of you all today

Re: 105.5 fever
Well- it's definitely flu. Ped says they're not differentiating between swine vs. seasonal, although it's likely seasonal because none of us (DH, me, Mads) have symptoms and we've all been vaccinated for it (touch wood).
What sucks is she (PED) HAS the swine flu vaccine in- I should have brought Mads with me.
ETA: Thanks for all the well wishes everyone. She seems fine when she has Motrin in her. She was all happy and babbling while we were at the doctor's office. But the Motrin wore off while we were picking up her prescription and BAM- downhill she went (104.3 ).

If her test came back negative for the flu, how can they be sure it's the flu? Just curious to educate myself is all.
I am glad she is hanging in there...I hope it passes quickly.

According to my pediatrician the flu test is only 50-70% accurate, especially in young children/babies. At this point, we've ruled out most everything else (ear infection, lungs, UTI) and she's been seeing cases recently that presented the same way (high fever, minimal other symptoms at first) but did get a + on the test.
I am nervous though- the only thing thats kept her fever down is Motrin, and she just woke up with another fever (and only took Motrin 2.5 hours ago ).
Ugh- at least she's drinking/nursing.
