Ski resorts New England

We want to take a family trip up north to getaway and get some beginner ski lessons for my kids.

Does anyone have any suggestions for a good resort 6 hours or less from LI with a nice scenic town to visit..think mom and pop restaurants, historic places, etc? We've never really travelled north of LI so I'm not to sure of the best places to go.

We just got back from Smugglers Notch in VT. It’s a great family resort. The town is cute but we pretty much stayed at the resort the whole time as we stayed in a condo.

I really liked Greek Peak. The ski school is close to the parking lot and they suit your kids up which is a huge bonus! Casades is a water park right there. They also have tubing. It's in Cortland so it's in your range.

We went to Greek Peak over the break and liked it! The Berkshires is good also. Butternut is nice as is Jiminy Peak.

I was going to suggest this as well. Its a great resort with a lot to do.

Although, we REALLY loved Mont Tremblant which is a little bit further of a drive (like 7-8 depending on where you live). That is an amazing spot. Gorgeous little ski village. I"m not sure if we are allowed into Canada yet though?
