I know everyone always rags on Walmart, but I have to say, they are doing pretty great in their store by me. I went there today for some things we needed (it's my DD's bday). My choices are Target or Walmart. I LOVE Target on a normal day, but Target has no cart wipes, people stand on top of each other, nothing in stock, TONS of people. I went last week, won't again for now. Walmart on the other hand. They have the cart area taped off. Each cart is wiped down and sanitized, then moved to another section where people can get carts. They have squares you have to stand on while waiting to check out. And tons of signs all over reminding to stay 6 feet away from people. The store was pretty empty, and I felt like I was in Zombieland, but it was nice that they are actually organized AND wiping the carts down! (I didn't need a cart though)

Last week I had to go the the Target store in Sayville - its not the closest to my house, but they had what I needed and I could order it for pick-up. I was so impressed by the precautions being taken throughout the store. Carts being wiped down when I walked in and clean ones in a separate area, the entire checkout counter being wiped down by the cashiers between EVERY SINGLE Customer. Today I went to the Target in E. Setauket, NY for a pharmacy item I needed and a few groceries, and what a difference! There were wipes for carts tucked in a corner by the front door - where you could hardly see them. Sales Associates were completely unaware of social distancing (or at least that's the way it appeared). And at the checkout counter - zero precautions being taken. The cashier had no gloves and leaned over the key pad to look at something as I was putting my card in - basically putting his face right by mine. There was no sign of the checkout counter being wiped down. When I asked the cashier about it he said they do that "every few customers." It seems like it's a store-by-store thing. I will not return to the E. Setauket Target, for at least a LONG time.

Sayville is my usual Target! I hadn't been there in a few weeks and had to go tonight. In the time since I was last there they implemented all the things you mentioned. It wasn't like that a few weeks ago. I like how they do the lines now. Much better.

Walmart

They are not letting people into the store (at some places) unless you use a cart. This allows for distancing (or Abstand as they say here).

There wasn't even enough people in Walmart to require a cart to social distance to be honest. I think everyone must be at the grocery store or Target!

Sayville Taget was actually pretty empty last night. Good time to go I guess.
The only thing that bothered me there was I wanted to pick up a few Easter cards while I was there. The Easter card section was right where they were directing people to enter the checkout line area. So I'm standing there trying to find cards as quickly as possible and people have to keep trying to come past me to get to the line area. It was uncomfortable and I felt it was too close.
I ended up grabbing one and leaving. I will get the others elsewhere.
Other than that Target was a great experience yesterday

People don't realize how much Walmart has and how much cheaper it is than Target and the grocery stores. I love it and go every week. Go early on the weekend and you are fine.

I take back what I said about Walmart. I went today to get Eggs and milk and a couple other things. It was so busy, and they weren't wiping down carts, and there were no wipes, and that area wasn't roped off anymore. I guess everyone goes on the weekend! I left and went to Target and it was empty compared to Walmart! They did have cart wipes this time. I wore my mask out (triple layer fabric that I sewed, and my gosh I was sweating!) Still no toilet paper. Are places even manufacturing it anymore? SO weird.

It does have a lot and it’s cheaper...but I always find it much less appealing to go to.
I’ll go 2-3 times a year and then remember why I don’t go more often.

Think more people go out on Saturdays. I have always shopped Sunday mornings and it is never busy. Cashiers have told me the busiest time for Walmart is Sunday afternoons.

Less appealing how? The people? Go early or at dinner time and there is no one there.

Every time I've gone there, I've thought the same thing. Like "now I remember why I don't come here". Last time, it was 2 guys at the entrance about to fight over something. The time before that, there was a very large woman flipping out on the cashier about her payment not going through. Her voice just boomed through the store. Commack and Islandia are awful. Middle Island isn't that bad (not good, but not as bad as the others). If I have to, I prefer that one. If I find something on their website that is considerably cheaper than Target, I will order it online and have it shipped or do in-store pickup.

Re: Walmart

Target was bad today. Bad.

I had to pick up a prescription. As soon as I got there, the lot looked fuller than it had all weekend.

They weren't stopping you at the door or controlling how many people went in.

I went to the pharmacy - only one person ahead of me.

I figured let me just run to the Easter aisle to see if I can grab a few things real quick for DD's basket.

The Easter aisle was bad. Way too many people. Way too many kids. Mothers having no control over the kids. As I was looking down an aisle a girl- not a young toddler either- she was probably like 11- almost crashed right into me.

In addition they were stocking the shelves- which IMO needs to be done after hours (they close earlier now for this). You can't be a safe distance when they are down there with carts stocking.
For every person there was an employee running down and stocking stuff and saying- oh excuse me, oh just have to squeeze in here, oh just one more thing.

I had to leave. I couldn't deal.
Very bad that they allowed this.

Funny you said they were busier than the weekend because I was waiting until today to run out (haven't been to a store in 2 weeks) thinking it would be less busy than the weekend. Maybe everyone else that's not at work is thinking the same thing. Ugh. I'll wait a few more days I guess.

We have to go feed my FIL's pets as he is in a rehab facility right now and when we past Target yesterday around 6:30 pm it was dead.
Sunday evening is probably a good time.
Even Saturday late afternoon it looked quieter than today.
