If there's a problem with a test...
Do you talk to the teacher about it or write a note? I never had this issue before. My 2nd grader came home with some sentence test he took. He got one wrong so not a big deal. I was proud of him, but he looks it over and points to the one he got wrong. He's supposed to circle Yes or No if the sentence is a full sentence. He circled No for a sentence, but said it doesn't have a period so that's why he circled No. I looked close and could see what he's talking about. The period almost looked like it was in the last letter k so the dot was hard to even see. I just pointed to the sentence that was marked wrong and wrote down he thought it was missing a period. It had to be signed too.
I only did it bc DS was confused why he got it wrong bc he was adamant that he was right for missing the period.
Would you of done the same or just left it?

I think that you approached that correctly. It isn’t a huge deal, but you didn’t ignore his point either and the teacher will probably make it more clear in future (especially if another kid made same mistake). Also, just writing it is less confrontational IMO.

Re: If there's a problem with a test...
I would and I have. Recently DD came home with a test on clocks/time.
She had 3 marked wrong but then I noticed- she wrote the correct times, she just mixed up the lines where she was supposed to write them. I had to sign it so I did and I put a little note on there as well pointing out that she actually knew the correct times but she mixed up the lines she wrote them on.
The teacher responded back to me that she let her re do those and she improved her score (She didn't get FULL credit for those because yes, you have to be careful and re-check your work, but at least she acknowledged she did know the answers)

I have written to teachers before when they mark items wrong when they are right. We all make mistakes.

Yes, I have done the same thing when my DS had a question marked wrong on test but he was actually right. He was in Kindergarten. I felt silly even saying something bc it is so not a big deal and doesn't really matter, but it's just the principle.

Writing a note is appropriate. I work in a school and this is generally the method parents use for what you’ve described.

If there's a problem with a test...
yes ive done it... shes in Kindergarten and the examples on the page for the letter t dont have the t going all the way to the top line, so thats how she wrote it... and the teacher went over it and corrected her. And i mentioned it in a letter and realized that i was going to see her the next day for Parent Teacher conference so i asked her. I said thats kind of confusing. Why mark it wrong when she followed the example.

i think that was fine- if my student came in with that written i would correct the score because that's legitimate

every test, all of 1st grade, I went over every single test he took. (that had more to do with the teacher and her inability to be human) i would write notes describing the details, but the teacher would ignore it every time and tell me that i was wrong. i then escalated it to the parent coordinator, who made the teacher change the grades because she was wrong and my kid was right.
you did the right and polite thing.
