Adjustment to School

If your child started school and had a rough time adjusting, how long did it take them to adjust?

My 3 y.o. DD's daycare suddenly shut down with no notice, so while scrambling to find another place that would take her, I ended up enrolling her into a full day preschool that has before/after care. She started over 2 weeks ago. The mornings are the worst as she will cry and throw herself on the floor, the aides said that she also gives them hard time going from the before care to the classroom. When she is picked up in aftercare she is totally fine.

Just was wondering other parent's experiences with the adjustment period.

Adjustment to School

We just had the same thing happen. My son's daycare closed we had 2 weeks to find something else. We found a great daycare but my son who has never hit anyone has been hitting and pulling hair. It is getting better but at first it was a lot. He is 2. I think over time the new routine will just become the norm but its taking way more time then I thought it would. It has been a month and he still has a bad day here and there.

Ugh! Yeah sounds like its rough just going into a totally new environment. I'm hoping by next month everything will be OK.

Re: Adjustment to School

It may be the transition from before care to the room. Does she have classmates in before care? Are there activities for her to do? Is there a routine? It may be helpful for her to have a set routine at drop off (dd used to eat Cheerios every morning one year and would do the same puzzle upon entry another year).

My dd was fine in full-day daycare but had difficulty with aftercare at her full day nursery because it was “looser” than the classroom.
