Cake?!
This is probably a really stupid question, but what size cake do you get for a 3 year old's birthday party? 20 kids at a party place and their parents (from what I've seen, the vast majority bring both parents).
I initially thought 50 people and I am getting quotes that are so am I seriously overestimating the amount of cake I need?
My usual bakery wants $200 for a plain chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream on top (not even on the sides- supposed to look like the birthday cake on Peppa). I'm not a cheap person by any means but that seems beyond insanity to me.

Cake?!
Costco cakes... $19.99 half sheet cake, will feed a good 20-25 people! My kids had a Mickey theme last year and we just had a cake with some balloons on it and “happy birthday” standard Costco cake... I would never pay for a fancy cake! They look awesome, but not worth the money to me!

Re: Cake?!
Costco or BJs. Usually a half sheet cake but BJs also does a really cool round stacked cake that roughly feeds as many as a half sheet.

Re: Cake?!
$200 is on the “family discount” low end of a speciality cake. Most run double that.
I usually do the half sheet also for about $50 with a picture printed on it (Stew Leonard’s but Carvel and other places do it too). It is $$ I’d rather use elsewhere. I cut small pieces (people can have 2 slices if they like).

Cake?!
I order a cake from dortonis-i think around $40? I get one that says 20-24 people or so, and just cut small slices. I think we had 40 at her party this year and it was fine.

Interesting, maybe I should do that. Honestly, I might go buy the right size pans and make it myself. It is literally chocolate cake with buttercream spread on top, there isn't even any decoration.

Yes, I've ordered cakes that size WITH decorations for $40.
But apparently for a non decorated, half frosted cake it's $200.

Cake?!
I usually order a plain sheet cake or ice cream even and put what figures my son is into on top. Always looks nice. I love cool cakes but can't bring myself to spend money on it.

Re: Cake?!
Honestly for a kiddie party, no way. That's nuts. I get pull apart cupcakes from stop and shop. They are insanely delicious and they can put any design on them...they are frosted as one big unit like a sheer cake

Yes!
Since tone doesn’t come across in a post I’m not angry about any of this, I can’t stop laughing. It is literally referred to as “homemade chocolate cake” on the show. Homemade by Daddy Pig

Re: Cake?!
I get either a costo cake or a shop rite pull apart cupcake cake. Shoprite has a book and they can make anything in their book. They even have plastic figures to stick on top of it. I think they both run around $20.

Re: Cake?!
I get a pull a part cake made into the theme of the party.
I only get enough cupcakes for kids.
This runs me around $40-$60 depending on what I get and how many cupcakes.
I then order a cake for the adults from bjs. I always end up with so much cake left over.
For what you are describing I would not be paying $200 for that cake you could really just make it yourself and if I was you I would make one for the theme of the party and then order one maybe from bjs with the theme

Cake?!
yup.... this is why i always end up just making cupcakes for my kid's parties. neither of them are a huge fan of CAKE-cakes anyway. so i buy 2 boxes of Duncan Hines cake mix on sale for 2 boxes for $5, and 2 things of frosting...and spend an hour making 3-4 dozen cupcakes. they're happy and i save a ton of money LOL

Re: Cake?!
BJ's! You can get a half a sheet cake for like $28!
ETA they have an entire book that you can go through where you can get it character themed. No extra charge.

Re: Cake?!
As an in-home baker, that's crazy pants. $200 for that?! We generally charge $2.50 per person, but we'd probably do a full sheet cake like that for $100. A full sheet serves about 65. A half sheet about 40. You can totally get away with a half sheet and cut the slices small.

This.
ETA: I've also done cakes from ShopRite.

Re: Cake?!
You can get a 2 tier cake from BJs for like $55 or something. $200 is insane for that kind of cake. I could understand if it was fondant with decorations, but a plain chocolate cake ... no way.
