How stringent are/were you on naps for a 2 year old?
Would you skip an event or make others change plans or inconvenience them because your child needed to nap?

Re: Naps
Naps never dictated our lives. If we have an event we either skip the nap or take an earlier nap. I would never skip an event because of a nap.

Naps
If it’s a major event, I would try and rework their schedule, if it was like a BBQ or something I would just go late or leave early. My kids live and die by their nap and bed time and no way will I deal with 2 cranky toddlers! My kids are also somewhat good that if I walked them in the stroller they may sleep at the event, it’s a toss up but they may

Re: Naps
This depends on the kid. I have 3. Only one needed to nap. One never napped (even as a baby), one would sleep if exhausted.
My sister’s kids nap religiously. We don’t do events around nap time. If they don’t nap, they are evil.

Re: Naps
Mine are all go with the flow type of kids and can nap whenever and wherever. We never skipped events because of naps.

Depends on the kid. My DS always needed his nap or he would be terrible. We would sometimes go to a family event late if he was napping or if the event involved a longish car ride we would time our travel time so he would sleep in the car during his nap time.

I would never miss an event for a nap. I would change naptime when/if necessary.

Re: Naps
I wouldn't skip an event. DD is pretty flexible with her nap time so I wouldn't stress it. I'd *try* to get her to take a short nap beforehand... I can usually rely on her to sleep in the car so if we're driving, we're usually fine. But if she doesn't nap and we're out and about, she's generally too excited and distracted to get cranky and then she konks out as soon as we leave.

Re: Naps
Depends on the kid, but probably not. None of my kids napped after about 18 months old. My DD is 23 months and never naps anymore, so no. I would think most 2 year olds could handle napping a little early or later after the event.

Re: Naps
My son lived for naps. Without it, he was a nightmare and you wouldn't want him at your event. For special events I would have him nap in the stroller. For non special events like meeting up with friends, I would suggest we do it later or we would skip it.

This is the situation I’m in. I have a friend who is throwing a fit and giving the group a hard time because her child needs to nap in the middle of the day. We all have kids and everyone else is willing to move or skip the nap that day. Her alternative is to move the visit to late in the afternoon. She lives 2 hours away from the rest of us and we would be going to an activity near her house.

Sounds like the start of drama. Change plans (maybe do things closer to you all so that friend could come when she can or do it early in the AM) or do those plans in the future when nap times change.
Trust me, to that friend, there is no other way.

I get it- really, I do. But if there is no other way, do not expect other people to be willing to spend 4 hours in the car with kids who had a shortened or no nap and then get home past their bedtime while there is zero disruption for your kid.
She goes nuts if we cancel plans.

DS was fairly easygoing in this regard and would take his nap wherever, so it wasn't an issue.

depends on what the event is. DD is 2 and she naps REALLY well, like from 12:30-2:30/3ish, and i really don't want to mess with it because we have a good thing going LOL
We went to sesame recently and kept her up until close to 230/3pm and then she just slept in the car on the way home. But for a birthday party, BBQ, etc. we just tell people she's napping at that time we will come by after she wakes up. I feel like a cranky kid is no fun for anyone, and I like to avoid that as much as possible. If I let her nap before, she is a really good baby and will be alot more fun to be around!

my 2 yr old and also my older kids were nappers and miserable with out them. We revolve around nap time. It sucks but even when naps are cut short my 2 yr old is a beast. My husband took my older 2 to a party and I stayed home b.c it was literally during nap time and we knew we would not enjoy being in a restaurant with him.
I have mixed feeling on it. I try really hard to not be that person but I am lol but noone wants to be near my son w/out a nap. But I can sometimes push it
