Diwali holiday
Parent here
Is it true teachers got an email that no hw or tests/quizzes should be given this Thursday and Friday due to the holiday?

I teach in NYC DOE. I do teach students with special needs but did not receive any email like that. For my students that celebrate, I reach out to their parents and let them know I will not be sending home homework.

NYC guidance counselor here. I did not receive an email like that.
We have so many religions represented in our student population that teachers would never be permitted to give tests! It's always someone's holiday. But if a test / project / etc. is scheduled and a student will be absent for religious observances, they are permitted to make up the work.

Diwali is next week. October 19. In my district, schools are closed for the holiday.
