TV and Video games

how much TV time do your children get a day? How much video game time? do they earn it or is it just a given that they will get it ?

Some days alot, some days, little to none. They do not earn it, but it can be taken away as punishment.

Re: TV and Video games

Robbie is 9. During the week he must finish his homework, Read for 20 minutes, eat dinner with the family, wash up and dress for bed, brush his teeth. He also must go to any games for him or his brother.. any other time is his to use as he wishes. Chat Icon It usually amounts to him getting about 30 minutes of video games and maybe a half hour of television per night. Sometimes more or less.

Noah is not permitted to play video games at all. This is mostly because he has a low anger threshold when it comes to losing. He has similar chores/responsibilities as Robbie during the week - and is able to watch television with us provided he's done what he needs to do.

Weekends and summers are similar. We try to schedule stuff to keep them busy, but we do give them some scheduled down time. After lunch Noah must go upstairs - he can do whatever quiet activity he would like - including watching television or reading books or playing with tech decks, action figures or whatever. Robbie must stay downstairs. He can play video games, watch television or do whatever he wants quietly.

While we don't let them 'earn' time or give them MORE time for electronic media and games.. they are the first thing to be taken away when they misbehave.

Same here. When he has homework, he's not allowed to watch any TV until it's finished. They usually watch 2-3 shows when we get home in the evenings and 1 show in the morning. There are some days the TV doesn't get turned on. Other days like when the weather is bad, they may watch a few hours of TV.

Nate is allowed to play Wii on the weekends for an hour or so. If he acts up, his privileges get taken away.

Re: TV and Video games

DS only plays video games on friday, sat and sun. Also he must have his room cleaned before he starts playing on friday.

As for the TV, he doesn't watch it as much as keeps it on for background noise or something. He will play in his room with the tv on and not watch it. I guess its so it doesn't seem so quite in his room.

Re: TV and Video games

DD doesn't play video games yet aside from a few computer games here and there and maybe the wii once a month - her choice. As for tv I don't limit it but I try to avoid it. There are time like first thing in the morning and before bed that it is almost always on but the rest of the day it changes. My dd is VERY active and I am lucky if I can get her to sit still and watch it so I can cook dinner or something. I don't have a problem with it being on but I try to save it for the rainy days we are stuck inside. SS is BIG into video games. Most of the time as long as he is doing good in school, has his homework done, and is behaviing there is no limit. My dh however does limit it in the summer because if he doesn't, he will sit in the house and go on computer and video games all day.
