What do I need to go and buy at the craft store to start teaching myself? I know I will need a book to learn from....but what materials. I'm clueless....never done this before but I'm determined to learn! Thanks for the help.

I taught myself using a little pamphlet from my grandmother together with direction on the internet. Some sites even have little movie files to show you how.

I would just buy some cheap yarn and a pair of medium sized needles, just to get the hang of it. I think probably size 8 or 10 are good ones to start with.

I found it hard to learn without someone showing me the basics- then I was able to figure out the rest from books.

Most little yarn stores have someone that will teach you. AC moore does, too.

Thanks...I'll have to check out AC moore...I bought some stuff yesterday. I was able to figure out casting on...but I can't figure out the next row which is a knit stich.

I bought a kit in Target to make a scarf. It came with everything needed, a manual, and a DVD to show you. I have been doing great with it. I learned 5 different stiches from the DVD.

I've done the scarf thing a few times, now I want to move on to bigger and better things. I think I need to take a class or something. I don't think I can learn from a book.
