What special tradition did you do as a kid w/your family

Do you now try to do with your own?

For me, it would be the traditions I had as a kid for Easter. Easter egg hunts, blow up rabbits, getting all dressed up.

We had tons of traditions when I was a kid all of which I use with the kids now, especially the one for their birthdays where I wake them up on the exact minute they were born and the rest of the day they can do no wrong(to a point of course)they also get to pick what ever they want cooked for dinner or a restaurant they would like to go to.

We really did not have too many and that stinks, but I do remember as a child...my mom always leaving our X-mass presents by our pillows. It never failed on X-mass day.

Um, there was traditionally a fight right before christmas Chat Icon

Kev's family has a lot of traditions though - I'm so happy to be apart of them now Chat Icon

I do want to try to start some when I have kids of my own though.

My mom assigned each of us ( I have 2 younger brothers) a specific spot under the Christmas tree and would then give each of us a certain type of wrapping paper....I look forward to it every year...Each of us knows where our gifts areChat Icon

On our birthday, my parents would let us go to the toy store and pick out a toy. We would get presents on our birthday also, but it was a very special thing. Going to the toy store with your whole family and they help YOU pick out a toy. I loved doing that. I do that now with my dh. On or around his birthday, we will spend the day going to stores he enjoys and I buy him his birthday gift. I plan on doing that for my daughter when she gets older.

My MIL does this too! It's something that we are starting to do as well.

DH's family also have a tradition of putting up the Christmas tree Thanksgiving weekend and having Coke from bottles, Italian bread, pepperoni, provolone, cappanata, and we now carry on that tradition as well.

Halloween Beef Stew....
My mom always made beef strew on Halloween...she said that she liked to brew in one pot on that day...(the little witch) It was great though, because no matter what time we came in from trick or treating there was warm stew on the stove...and enough for all our friends too.

Fairly New Tradition....
Every mother's day we have a brunch at my cousin Jen's house....only woman...no men.
If you do not have any children, your mother must be present at the brunch. It started a few years ago...we just had the 3rd annual one this past weekend.

Our traditions are all about Christmas...from decorating to celebrating. My beloved father was all about Christmas and I hope to continue his legacy in my own family with my own children some day.

My husband and I have already started a new one...every Christmas morning we have cinnomin (sp?) rolls for breakfast.
