People Say the Dumbest Things!!

I went to my DH's friend's wedding in NV last week. Aside from the wedding, I had only met the guy who was getting married once. Of course, I had never met his mother.

His mother comes up to me and this other man from LI who I became friendly with (bc DH was in the wedding party). First she says to the man, "So, do you still have just one child?" He says, "Yes! She's the love of my life!" She says, "Oh, but when will you have your second? What are you waiting for?" And he says, "Right now we're very happy with just one, thanks." And she says, "Oh, but you CANNOT have just one child. You must have more! If you have just one child, she will turn out to be a spoiled rotten, horrible person who will never share or get along with anyone else." He said, "Oh no, she is great with other children and actually my sister lives around the block and she has a son that is almost like a brother to my daughter." She continues, "Oh NO -- that's not good enough..>" Blah, blah ... she continues until the man breaks and says, "Listen, unfortunately my wife was faced with some major infertility issues and we found out that we could not have any more children. We considered adoption but then we realized that our daughter was enough for us because we are blessed to have her and I feel as though I am the luckiest man alive to have her and she's enough for me." The woman does not stop. She turns to me and says, "But Susan, don't you agree with me that the child will be selfish and not learn to make friends?" I said no. Then.................

She says, "So what's your problem, Susan? Why haven't you given Joe his love child yet? I'm sure he's waiting! I've known Joe for a long time and he's always wanted a family. You should have a baby now!" I was like, "I know, we plan to." She proceded to tell me how important a family is and I should not be waiting, blah, blah.

The man and I looked at each other and I literally almost smacked the woman in the face. UN-F-ING-BELIEVABLE!!!

Why do people feel that it is acceptable to talk about your personal business.

People should be forced to take a communication class to pick up on all the SHUT UP!!!! vibes we send them.

Sorry you had to be polite to her.

I don't know that I could have given her a civil answer. Especially after what she said to that poor man, imagine how horrible that must have been for him too!

OMG Sue, I don't care if it was her son's wedding, that woman needed a serious ****** slap!!! I can't believe how stupid and ignorant people can be... GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR....

OMG, how awful!!!! It never ceases to amaze me how stupid people can be!!!!

I can't even count how many times things like this have happened to me!!!!

What a freakin' idiot!!!!

OMG, She deserved a tongue lashing.....Congrats to you for keeping your composure.

I try not to let things like that get to me. I know she was not ill-intentioned, and honestly, I really don't think ppl THINK of these things unless they have gone through infertility themselves. I almost died though. I thought she would take the hint after awhile, but it lasted all day! Thanks for understanding my frustration though.

Uch! I can't stand when people say things like that!! It pisses me off so much! They have no idea what is going on, whether there is difficulty or you don't want children yet or whatever the reason may be, ... it is just none of their business period!!!! You kept your composure and that is teriffic! It shows that you are a bigger person than her!
