Hi everyone, my name is Elena. I lost my Mother when I was 15 months old. She was 32 years old, and it's been an everchanging life of learning how to deal with the loss. I am now 28 and approaching the age she was when she passed away, strange, huh? I am so sorry for all of your losses. I guess it's good to know that there are other people in the world able to relate to something so difficult to wrap our brains around. Wonderful to read about all of your stories, thanks.

This board is amazing....

My name is Alison. I lost my mom when I was 10 -- in 1989. She was 38 and suffered with cancer for only a few months. I am an only child and grew to be pretty close with my dad. He died of a heart attack in March 2003. I miss them so much each day!

Hi everyone..
My name is Trish and I lost my mom when I was 16. When I was 13 my mom had breast cancer. After a mastectomy, they said she was in remission. 2 years later, they found a tumor in her brain and gave her less than a year to live. I'll always remember how strong she was in facing her prognosis and living life to the fullest during that final year.Chat Icon

Hi all. I'm Lori. I lost my Mom 5 years ago on 02/13/01 due to Colon Cancer. What really gets me is she was diagnosed at stage 4. I'm so sick and tired listening to people say how preventable colon cancer is if you get a colonoscopy. All my life my Mom was in the hospital. She had Ulcerative Colitis. My Mom educated herself about her disease to where I completely believe she knew more than her Doctors. We spent a lot of time visiting her in the hospital after being admitted for many things, blockages, etc. She had every scope possible - endoscopy, colonoscopy she also had blood tests, cat scans, x-rays, whatever the tests were...she had it. Any time we went somewhere she had to have a change of clothes and always had to know where the bathroom was...it just was the norm for us. Finally she said she had had enough. She decided she would have a colostomy bag put in. When and only when they went in and cut her open they realized she had cancer...and it was everywhere. They then diagnosed her at stage 4. They gave her 6 mths...she made 2 years.
Thankfully I still have my Dad. Also, very thankfully I still have my Grammie. My Mom's Mom. She's outlived not only her Husband, but ALL THREE of her children. She's the only connection I have with my Mom and I'm so very thankful to God that I have her.

I am sort of in your situation...my mom gave us up 21 years ago and we grew up with my dad and an evil stepmother....no female influence at all...so hard. Even harder that it's so hard to explain to people that my mom just "isn't in my life"...

Very similar situation....I had an evil stepmother as well...we have not spoken since my father's funeral! It was so hard not having a mom, and now with my dad gone I truly feel like an orphan at 30 years old!!

I lost my mom 8 months ago to breast cancer which metastisized to her brain. she was initially diagnosed 5 years ago and then was fine. she was not feeling well for a few months before my wedding (which was in july) but refused to goto the dr. until after my wedding. she went in for brain surgery while i was on my honeymoon (i didnt know). she never fully came out of it. the cancer was so aggressive. 2 months later she was gone. i cant believe that i have to live my life without her forever. thankfully i have my dh, dad, and 23 year old sister. it's so hard.

edited sister's age and I'm 28
