Dressing Babies Alike???

I have gotten this question a million times from people as I am having identicals and I still don't know what I am going to do?

Did you ladies (or do you plan to) dress the babies in the same outfits? If so for how long?

My DH is against this as he feels especially with identical twins they need to find their own identities, but I would not mind doing it for a few occassions when they are younger.

When me and my sister were babies....my mom only dressed us alike with things she got as gifts. Most of the time, people would buy things the same...or the same, but 2 different colors. Other than that...she put us in different things. As we got older and could dress ourselves, we never wanted to wear the same thing. If I was wearing something and them my sister put the same thing on...I would go change....we hated wearing the same stuff.

Funny story...for my HS yearbook picture, I wore my favorite green shirt. I liked my picture, but my sister didn't, so she signed up for re-takes. Lo and behold...she wears MY green shirt on re-take day (she claimed she didn't know I wore that for pictures). So, in our HS yearbook...we are wearing the same shirt. I was mortified. The only saving grace was that I was the last person on my page, and she is on the next page. I'm sure most people didn't notice or didn't care...but it was a big deal for me, then.

i dont have twins, but, i am an identical twin. my parents never dressed us alike, and i have to say i am grateful for that. i have spent my whole life being mistaken for my sister. and being called the wrong name. dont get me wrong, im not complaining, i LOVE having a twin. but i dont think twins need to dress alike. my sister and i look so much alike, at least our clothes gave us a sense of self. and just as the above poster said, if my sister and i were in not only the same outfit, but even a similar outfit to eachoter, we would immediatily change. lol.

I didn't want to. But it is so hard to find outfits that I LOVE & then decide "Who gets to wear what." So, I end up buying 2 of each. But, if I see an outfit I love & they have the same in a different color I go for that. I will however stop this I'm sure.

I was adamet about not dressing them idneitcally, but at times I have. I try to do different shirts though, so at least they are not in the exact same thing. I got a bunch of idneticla outifts, which for us were such a waste since my boys have not been in the same size at the same time yet.

My nieces are twins - one is my Goddaughter. We would often buy them the same outfits but in different colors when they were younger -- but not once they started showing thier own personalities....

I plan on dressing them alike or in different colors of the same outfit while they are babies (that's IF they are the same sex). once they start walking around and develop personalities I will dress them differently.

OK Im going to get tomatoes thrown at me for sharing my honest opinion on this, but here goes.

I dont understand why (and this is not directed to one person, just in general, I just briefly mentioned this in another post too). Why moms of twins feel they have to, I cant even think of how to say it, but sort of go against the nature of what a twin is

To me (my opinion). Twins are two peas in a pod, two drops of water (we were called that in Italy growing up), one egg split in two (well ya know, for identical), twins are TWINS. There is a magic, an automatic intrigue about the world of twins. I just dont see why everyone is in such a rush to make them "not-twins" That's just how I see it.

My mom dressed us alike for as long as I can remember. In many pics, I can barely tell who is who. and when we bought our own clothes, as pre-teens, etc. we constantly bought the same things. In the mornings, we decided what to wear together. We were half of a team, and we were ONE together.

Sure, there were ABSOLUTELY many times, years, months, I cant remember specifically, but of course we havent gone 30yrs dressed alike every day, but I cant remember one figment of a thought in my mind of not wanting to dress alike. We never had that cross our minds. When we did dress differently, we just happened to have different tastes, and bought different things. IT wasnt in any rebellious negative way. When we did this, we winded up borrowing eachothers stuff anyway

Yes, its healthy to have your own tastes, style, personality, I can speak to this being that I am an identical twin. I know what its like to always be "compared" to someone else, never mind it being a classmate or other siblings. Yes thats another topic, but I think the dressing alike thing was so much fun. We totally loved it, and we look back at pictures even as teenagers and young adults, (if we bought something, we'd come home with one for the other one-now we do it for eachother's boys) its part of who we are and will be forever and we will never let it go.

THere are plenty of opportunities to let each twin's tastes, personalities and styles shine through. I never felt deprived or denied anything by dressing like my sister. It was something that not everyone did (and there were also much fewer twins back then, there were 2 sets in a whole school, now there are 3-4 sets of multiples in each grade in some schools). So it was a special thing we had.

Sorry to ramble, no offense to anyone and I hope that makes sense

I have to add....as we got a little older, sometimes we did buy the same thing. Or...if I went shopping and I bought something and I new my twin would love it, I would buy her the same thing in a different color...she does the same for me. We do this now too (we are 32).

I don't want them to be one half of a person. Yes they are identical in looks and DNA, but my boys have different personalities. One boys is more like me in many ways, and the other is more like my DH. I want them to have their own things too. I want them to be individuals also, not just a half of a whole. I know that I like my own identity, and my brother does too, so why would my boys who are twins not want that too. When they are old enough to choose what to do and if they want to do everything the same, that is great, but I don't wan to push that on them. I want to let them decide. They may have come from one egg, but they are two seperate babies to me.

How is dressing them differently going against "the nature of twins"??? Sorry, I just don't get it!

My niece and nephew are twins (obviously not identical). The only time they are dressed alike is something very basic - like they are both wearing overalls in their Easter pics. Of course, my nephew has on light blue overalls and my niece pink, but you get the idea.

I will not dress them alike. Maybe the same outfit, but different color, but Im not into the same exact outfit...
