I think the teams are financing the stadiums themselves (or through associates). I think the state and city are paying for the infrastructure costs - roads, stations, etc.
As someone wrote, parking will be a mess at Shea while the new stadium is being built. Shea will be torn down. However, if NY gets the 2012 Olympics, I thought I read it may stay up as a training area.
As for the capacity as someone else wrote of, most of these modern stadiums have a lower capacity than the stadium it replaced. The goal now is more fan comfort and being closer to the action - as opposed to these large multi-purpose staidums.
No doubt tickets prices will go up, but I'm sure that would happen anyway

well as far as the Mets are concerned, you should hope that they continue doing well this year into next. Because if they are planning on raising ticket prices (and you know that will include price increase in other things like parking or food) they are going to need increases in attendance at the home games!! !

Unfortunately for us, they'll raise the prices if they do good or not. We only have ourselves to blame since we keep paying.

I was just reading in the Daily news today that the stadiums construction costs will be borne by the teams, not taxpayers...

you are wrong....they are asking about 174 million from the the city and 70 mil from the state...JUST for the Yankee stadium alone

Hey I'm not saying I don't believe you but I read what I read in the Daily news. In the last paragraph of the article Randy Levine (a former Giuliani Deputy Mayor) said this "The Yankees, not the taxpayers, will construct and finance this project" So I don't know...but whatever we'll pay for it in other ways....
