This is sort of a vent...since I know everyone here can relate.
So I'm dropping my second dd off at kindergarten (we only have 1/2 day here) and I'm holding my ds. Now the moms and dad there know that he has a speech delay and some of them have shared stories with me about their older ones successes or friends that they know who have been through this...they've all been very supportive and understanding. Even going as far as celebrating with me and getting excited when my ds pointed to the doors of the school and said "do...op..in" (door open) for when the kids go in).
So, yesterday one of the moms says to me, oh...he's getting so big your not going to be able to hold him much longer." Okay, no biggie I get that all the time....then goes on to say that she read somewhere that by not allowing kids to "grow up" and be independent for example me holding my ds all the time could be contributing to his speech delay."
I just thanked her for the "comments" and then proceeded to ask her where she read that from since I would love to take a look at the article. Of course she had no comment. I also informed her, which all the parents know... unless she would like to chase my ds all over the playground (which was a complete sheet of ice by the way) I would continue to hold him.
Sorry it's so long...now I feel better...thanks for letting me vent!

What a jerky comment!
My DS used to have a speech delay, right now he is nearly 3 and only has a minor articulation problem. But anyway, when his speech was quite delayed I was sharing my worries with a mom at Gymboree. She said she really had no experience with this because both her kids were early talkers, and then proceeded to say ".... but of course, I read to them a lot"
Uh yeah, my son's oral-motor issues, which still impact his articulation today, would be magically cured if only I had read to him more. He'd be able to lift his tongue properly if I had only read ONE MORE BOOK each day. LOL, such idiots we encounter!!!
