I Had Parent Teacher Conferences Today

and my goodness all of the teachers and therapists just LOVE Nicholas Chat Icon

Academically he isn't where he should be, but he's improving. Math is still his weakness and he still has trouble with even basic math facts. They will continue to work with him though and focus on it more in RR. Socially - he's improving with the other children they said. I'm crossing my fingers that he'll get a birthday party invite soon! Chat Icon

His special education teacher (who takes him for RR and pushes in for the CTD program) told me a few of the things they have implemented to help him be sucessful in the classroom. Nicholas is chatty..very chatty! He would talk to himself a lot too. So she created a "shhing" card and keeps one in her pocket and one taped to his desk. During group lesson if he is talking she points to the card or if she isn't next to him she pulls the card out of her pocket and he knows that he needs to stop. She said this has helped him SO much.

Also he has a hard time asking for help if he needs it when doing his work. So she taped a card to his desk that reminds him if he needs help to go to the back table and the teacher will help him. Again, she said it's been very successful.

Also, he has a daily checklist system taped to his desk where he checks off each thing once it's completed. She said he loves the checklist, it helps keep him organized and it's not another piece of paper he has to pull OUT of his desk and do. It's all right there for him.

I have to say, I'm VERY happy with this district and all of his teachers/therapists. These little things they implemented are such a great help to him and in our previous district no one thought to come up anything like this. They all seem to REALLY care about Nicholas and really want him to succeed Chat Icon

That's wonderful. I'm so glad to hear they are implementing things that seem to be helpful lifeskills, KWIM? And to feel like they "get" and care about your child is awesome.
