this may sound like a horrible contradiction but...

i am so happy with suffolk county right now. as much as i would love to be a homeowner and stay on long island, i am delighted to hear that suffolk county bought acres of farmland to preserve and not to develop. i'm sick of seeing parts of LI that i remember as being farmland turned into condos and townhouses. sounds horrible considering how we need more normal income housing, but it makes me feel better to know that there will always be parts of LI that will stay rustic and natural.

You're right. And as much as there is a need for reasonable housing, too much development will kill that area. DH and I really thought about moving out that way, but it wasn't practical with our jobs.

As much as i want a house...any houses that would be built on that land i probably wouldn't be able to own anyway..

It's definately nice to hear. It seems there isn't an inch of land anywhere now where there isn't a house being built.

I totally agree. I hate the developments. I hate seeing the cookie cutter houses popping up. No trees. No personality!

I completely agree. I was heartbroken when I saw that the old Davis Peach Farm (Mt. Sinai) was sold and there are now $800,000+ homes on the land. The Peach Farm was such a part of my childhood. When my family would head to Cedar Beach for the day we'd stop and get peaches and other fresh fruit to take with us. Chat Icon Maybe I wouldn't feel AS bad if they were building affordable housing. It's SO sickening how much these builders make. I have inside info on the Davis Peach Farm land, that the land averaged $150,000 per lot and it costs about $250,000 to build a house and they sell them for $800,000 and more!! Chat Icon

I agree! Western Suffolk is so congested now a days...I love out east and how rural it is in some areas.

I agree, it saddens me whenever I see a new home being built.
