Hey Redhead...

You have piqued my interest in the book "the bad guys won" I have started reading it. I only read the first 30 pages and already i'm like "oh my god what a bunch of pigs"...especially after reading what they did on that plane when they were on their way back home after beating the astros in the NL Playoffs...what they did on that plane was atrocious and just plain disgusting!

I was like 11 or 12 when I became a met fan after they won the world series in 86' and I don't remember much cuz I was so young but i've always heard they were a wild bunch but really had no idea of how bad they were... I only remember Daryl Strawberry as being messed up....

I hope the current team isn't like this one... but then again for all we know they could be...any team could be like this for all we know.

I was under the impression that you had read it...anyways right now i'm reading the chapter on how the 1986 mets were formed, and how darly strawberry was scouted...

But before this there was a chapter that talked about the plane flight home after beating the astros in the 86' playoffs. So first of all the GM at the time didn't want the wives with them on the plane but against his better judgement he allowed it and it was a disaster, strawberry and his wife were constantly at each others throats....the guys were drinking beer after beer after beer and when they were done they threw the bottles of beer on the floor and then the hostesses started serving them the mini liquor bottles (why they did that is beyond me... ), so here they are drunk as skunks and daryl strawberry decides he can turn the chair into a couch by pushing back on it so he pushed and pushed until the chair broke..the whole aisle had to be fixed....then they were served cake that had chocolate frosting on it and they were smashing it everywhere, they took their peas that was in their dinner and smashed it together and was using it as shampoo on each other's heads...they were pinching and constantly harrassing the hostesses..one of the bat boys interviewed (I believe he was a bat boy) said that it was like watching the movie animal house.

Then when they got home the GM Frank Cashen got a bill from the airline for $7,500 with a note saying that Mets business was no longer welcomed and he was livid. So the travel secretary held a closed door meeting with the team and they were told that the GM was livid and that the mets were a first class operation...etc.etc. and after he left the room Davey Johnson, the manager said "Guys do you realize how much damage we did on the plane...I mean does anybody in here have anything to say? Does anybody in here feel guilty??" after that johnson took the bill from the airline rolled it up in his hand and said "men what are we going to do about this? what should we do?...well do you know what I think? I think in the next four games you'll probably put enough money in these guys pockets to cover this so F*** this Bull****" and he rippoed up the bill....then the whole team was like "yeah F*** them...F****** a$$***** and motherF*****....

I'm gonna read the whole book. I gotta for DH for christmas and he hasn't read it yet so when I told him about the plane story all of a sudden he was like "how long are you going to take to finish reading it" i was like "as long as it took for your interest to be piqued"

I have to give Johnson credit though - it was a good tool to use to rally the team together.

Yeah that's true...
