Anyone Know a Kitchen Designer?

So sometime in the fall we hope to finally tackle our kitchen...

We have already started buying new appliances (fridge and range).

And I have a contact through a friend where we'll be able to get our cabinets at a discount.

BUT, I'd really like to talk to someone who will come in and measure our kitchen, and come up with some designs of how to optimize space, where to put certain cabinets over others, etc.

Are there people out there that "design" kitchens? Does anyone know of anyone like this?

Both Consumers & Home Depot have "designers". They'll send someone to measure and then you work through design ideas with them

I have heard some not so good things about Home Depot.

DH's friend's mother has a kitchen and bath place in Huntington or Dix Hills. I think she designs them. I am not sure.
