Ladies,

What do your companies do for you in terms of maternity leave when it comes to adoption? I'm interested in seeing other people's plans. I am starting a new job on Monday so I'm unsure of their plan, if any.

TIA,

We get 12 weeks unpaid FMLA for bonding for federal and 12 weeks FLA for the state of NJ. All unpaid though.

My company does 13 weeks paid(if you are here a year) that includes the timeoff to travel if needed.

Less then a year you get 6 weeks paid.

My old job gave people the same as maternity leave, so 12 weeks FMLA, I think at about 80% pay. You had to forfit half your banked sick and vacation time. If you had to travel ahead of time you had to use vacation or cut into this time.

Also, you had to be there at least a year to qualify, otherwise I think you got nothing.

Wow, really interesting how much this varies from company to company. My new job is at a nonprofit and I will be there less than a year when I get my baby, so I doubt I'll get anything. Thanks for sharing!

Most companies do not have adoption leave policies that include pay. It is unfair, but you have to remember that our paid maternity leave "benefits" in the US have NOTHING to do with caring for a newborn. They are given so you can recovery for the physical condition of pregnancy and birth. FLMA does apply, but is unpaid.

Same for me. Both my and hubby's company also gives us money towards the adoption once completed.

I get $ towards the adoption as well from my company, $3,000. And don't forget the tax credit of $10,000+ we get if you don't make over $160,000+.

My husband's company is giving us $15K towards the adoption...and it does not have to be completed. They are giving it to us as we spend it. It is the BEST perk at his job! He also gets one week of paid leave to care for a new baby.
