When you want to sponsor a friend for a charity event, how much do you give?

I know, it's personal but I am asking anyway.

If you want more info, let's assume that you are comfortable with your finances but far from wealthy. Let's also assume that you have given to several charities within the past year, do not support every friend who is doing something for charity but currently have 2-3 friends that you want to support in their efforts.

ETA: I am thinking that less than $50 per friend is just too low and that most sponsors give $50 +. Am I wrong? This is getting expensive but I want to help some friends who happen to be doing good work.

I usually do $10... but we're broke (DH is still interning).

I'd say that, in the future, I'd probably do $25 since it can get pricey.

I feel like we give to stuff like this at least a couple times a month, so we do about $25 since it is so often. We get hit up all the time though...Kids of co-workers doing walks for charity, co-workers, friends, etc. I think $50 is more than generous.

Hmmm, you say you're financially comfortable but not wealthy and you're giving to other charities as well. I think giving each charity $50 might be a bit much if you can't swing it. So maybe $20-30, that should be better.

I do the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk at Jones Beach every October, I seriously have people handing me $1 bills. My biggest donors give $20.

I think you're being plenty generous!! Chat Icon Chat Icon

I do $25-50 depending on the charity, how close I am to them, and what I can afford at the time. Many of my close friends donated $50 for me when I ran the half marathon for TNT.

Thanks everyone. I just assumed that these people were getting more from everyone else than they did from me but I do not know that for sure.

I would say $50-$75 per person sounds reasonable. I have given $200.00 for a good cause.

Depends on how close I am to the person asking and the charity. The norm for me is $50-$75.

I have gotten anywhere between $5- $50. Honestly, anything is appreciated. $25 is fine.

I usually will give between $10 and $25, I always just try to give a little something for everyone/cause who asks.
