The Empire Plan - Insurance Help Needed

My DH never asks the right questions

DH just started with Nassau BOCES and starting 2/1 we will have the Empire Plan. When I got off the phone with the doctor this morning he said I have to go to the doctor for a physical before we are covered for health insurance. I'm like WHAT? So he shows me the form that he got in his orientation package. My DH does not have insurance right now. Does anyone know if you had to get the physical done BEFORE your insurance was effective? This would mean paying out of pocket for the doctor (hoping I can even GET him an appointment before 2/1? Please help! I'm freaking out over here.

I know that before working for a school district I had to get a physical. I had insurance at the time (because I was paying out of pocket so it was ok).

Maybe you can go to a clinic or something that will cost less. or ask if they have a BOCES physician that could do it for less.

if you don't have continuation of benefits from another source, it's possoible they can request this. It's done to eliminate pre-existing conditions. You will have to pay out of pocket for it, but you can go do a clinic for it. Tell them you have no insurance and are paying out of pocket and see what they can do. Tell them it's a health insurance exam.
