SEWING MACHINES -- HELP !!!

I am a beginner sewer and would like to get this as a present for Christmas. Can anyone please tell which is a good brand (under $100 if that's possible) and good model to get.

Basically, I will be using it for crafts, hemming and other miscellaneous stuff.
