I can't believe I am really posting this - it feels like a dream...
Friday night (5/25) I went out to eat with DH and felt a little off – not pain or anything specific – just not myself. Baby was kicking so I didn’t worry much about it but decided to go to bed when we got home. Throughout the night I had cramping that woke me out of my sleep but I was able to go right back to sleep when they passed. By 5am on Saturday I was very uncomfortable and DH decided to start timing. For the first three hours they were sporadic at 5 – 7 intervals but by 8am they became consistent at 4 minutes apart and lasting about 40 – 60 seconds. We called the doctor on call (since mine was on vacation) and she told us to meet her at the hospital. When she examined me I was about 2cm and thick but the pain was evident and the contractions were strong and consistent so she put me in a room and broke my water. OMG! The contracts went to 2 minutes apart and because of the severe discomfort they gave me the epidural. Throughout the day – yes day – I progressed but the baby would not get his head into place. Everyone talked about how big he must have been and we started talking c-section but the doctor wanted to wait until I was further along. At 9cm (which happened very quickly) and 100% dilation his head was well into position and a little while later we started pushing. I pushed for a little over an hour and my beautiful baby boy joined our family at 1:28 am on Sunday, May 27th. They brought him up to my chest and DH and couldn’t stop crying. It was the most amazing experience. DH got to cut his umbilical cord and the nurse (all of them throughout the day were amazing) took some pictures for us. I loved that after the cleaned him up we got to stay in recovery together – all three of us for an hour! I did have some second degree tearing but honestly didn’t feel a thing. The doctor topped off my epidural before we pushed and it was a huge help. I am recovering well and we were both released on Monday afternoon after the delivery…not too bad. He slept through the night last night which was a huge gift (and one I know not to keep expecting) and DH have not stopped staring at him for a second. We really are so in love with this little person.

BTW: So happy it was a boy - the doctor and nurses all knew the story by the end of the day and we were all cheering.
