Hi ladies!!!!

Barbara – aka nrshrgirl – came to visit me tonight and brought me a laptop… so now you guys can all breathe again – I have heard there has been alllll sorts of wackiness, suspense, and drama surrounding my details- so sorry to spring the “gotta go later bye” post on you guys without following up sooner, but, you know how it goes…. I really wanted to be the one that shared the details with all of you – especially after the birth experience I had – which really was not bad at all, but definitely QUITE a story….

SOOOO - I am STILL in the hospital, but I could not wait to tell you all….

I had a little boy.

And as much as I said I wanted a girl, I fell head over heels in love with this glorious, magnificent, and spectacular little person.

So, here is the story…

As you guys know, I was due Apr. 3. On my way to the dr. for my internal, I actually twisted my ankle outside of my house and fell!!!! So, I arrive to the dr. limping from a sprained ankle, and a scrape on my knee – I was in so much pain, and it was just such a stupid thing to happen….

So, I get to the dr., she tells m e the same old same old – no dilation, no effacement, baby was still very high. We talked about scheduling the induction for the following week.

I kept on telling her about my concerns that the baby just wasn’t moving around as much as normal. She said she was going to put me on the monitor anyway, so she strapped me in for almost 2 hours. She noticed I was having some contractions, and decided to do a sono. That’s when she saw there was only a pocket of fluid left.

This does not necessarily mean I was leaking, by the way – sometimes the fluid just begins to get absorbed towards the end of pregnancy. She said that’s why the fetus wasn’t moving around as much – less buoyancy. She also told me she should have done the sono first, which bothered me a little, because then I wouldn’t have been there for so long wasting so much time, but there is no sense harping on that…

So, even though she wanted me to go to the hospital ASAP, she did let me go home to get my bag. My dad got me and brought me to the hospital. He was more nervous than I was – it was so cute (he told me the next day, he ran into someone we were talking to in the elevator – she asked him if his wife had the baby yet – LOL – he was like – uh – that was my DAUGHTER!!!!!)

The hospital was PACKED!!! They put me in the utility closet at L&D – I’m not joking, it was where they kept the robes and surgery equipment next to the OR.

So, at 5:00, they put in the cervadil. The plan was the cervadil would get my cervix ready for pitocin the next day. So, I spend Tues. night in the utility closet strapped to a fetal monitor. Next morning at 7:00, DH comes with his daughters (they waited in the waiting room) and we were all prepared for the pitocin. My dr. looked at my cervix, and said there was no change in my cervix, and the baby didn’t move down at all. She said we could do one of 2 things – go for the C section immediately, or try again with the cervadil. She told me the baby’s heart rate was erratic, and if it stayed that way, we would do the C anyway, so we would know something within a few hrs. Since I was not ready to think about a C section yet, I told her to try the cervadil again.

The cervadil was in, and the baby’s heart rate was nice and stable, so I went for about 10 more hours in the utility closet, bored to tears, strapped to the fetal monitor – and oh yeah, not eating or drinking anything all day in case I needed the CS.

Dr. checks me again – at this point, I am delirious with hunger, getting contractions from the cervadil, and just ready to have the baby. Nothing changed at all – I’m like – ok, lets do this C section….

So, they start everything, explain the procedure with me. I’m crying, freaking out about the spinal, being cut open, not having DH in there with me until later, etc… and then the entire team gets pulled for emergencies in the hospital, and I wind up waiting another 3 hours!!! Meantime, my family is in the waiting room, our friends are calling our cells and texting us like crazy since they were expecting news from the morning… it was crazy….

Finally, finally, they tell me – ok – we are ready.

I walk into the O.R. like a cowardly little sniveling thing…. I mean, I am sobbing and choking like I was on my way to the electric chair. The nurse is holding me and rocking me, the anesthesiologist had to give me 2 spinals because the 1st one didn’t take… I am shaking and convulsing on the table begging for my DH to come in – total Lifetime drama moment, I swear. Finally, DH comes in in his scrubs – he looked so cute… he held my hand and rubbed my face while the anesthesia worked its sweet beautiful magic…

The dr. literally had to push on my RIBS to get the baby out!!!! And I mean, press for several minutes… this baby did NOT want to come out!!!!

And then the dr. said she saw the head. DH told me the baby was coming. And then the dr. said – “Heres your baby… boy”

I was in shock. I was sooooo sure it was going to be a girl. My parents were so sure. The ladies in the elevator were sure. Strangers on the street were sure. I dreamt about girls every night… I picked out pink everything…

I could not see my baby after he was born. The sheet was in the way, they were cleaning him, doing the whole thing… I kept on asking to see him… and then I saw DH holding him and rocking him…. It was the most beautiful thing I ever saw… the baby cried for a few seconds and then just lay quietly in DH’s arms looking up at him… They asked us what his name was, and we said it at the same time…. “ Cailen.”

The nurse brought him over to me – I couldn’t hold him yet, but she held him close to me so I could kiss him. It was quite possibly the happiest moment of my life. I kissed him over and over again. I am so glad DH caught that in the picture he took because I will never forget that moment. It never even dawned on me to be disappointed that it wasn’t a girl. He was my beautiful little son, and I was so ecstatic.

Then DH left with Cailen, and I had to go into recovery for an hour. I repeated over and over again that I am not going to sleep that night until I hold Cailen one time. I finally got to do so at 2:30 in the morning!!!!

Everyday here in the hospital has been glorious. I am recovering very well from the CS – in fact, there are women who delivered vaginally that are walking worse than I am, so I think this was the way to go…. I spend all day with Cailen and DH, with naps and drugs in between – I am loving life!!!!
