Could you guys do me a HUGE favor and find out what books are on the 8th grade curriculum for English?

I teach 8th and neeed some ideas because I want to find a 4th work to do with the kids that I love. I already do

The Giver
On Borrowed Time
The Diary of Anne Frank

We have a book called The Thief of Always in the book room that some of the other teachers use but I can't really get into it.

We also have The Pearl -- but I refuse to teach it cause I HATED that book when I read it in school.

The Face on the Milk Carton says its an 8th grade book.

I remember reading Night by Elie Weisel in 8th, which you could compare to The Diary of Anne Frank.

Hmm thinking...

Any books about enterting highschool?

Night is taught at the HS.

There are two companion books to The Giver- Gathering Blue and Messenger. I loved them both, especially Gathering Blue, and all of my students who read it loved it too.

Stuck In Neutral is an amazing book- it's about a teen with cerebral palsy. He can't communicate at all, so people assume that he understands nothing, though he does. The story is told from his perspective- about his life and how he thinks his father is planning to euthanize him. It's very powerful. My students loved it.

Might be a bit too adult for 8th grade, but a few of them also loved The Lovely Bones.

Walk 2 Moons
Z for Zachariah
The Outsiders
Give a Boy a Gun
Big Mouth and Ugly Girl
Killing Mr. Griffin
