Had to take Larry David to the emergency animal hospital Saturday night

He got into and ate 1/2 bag (appx 25-30 pieces) of Hershey Kisses - wrapper and all Chat Icon. We found the other half of the bag when we got home. He seemed ok for a while but about 2 hours after we got home he started vomiting. About 2 hours after that he became extremely lethargic. Called the vet (at 8:30 on a Sat night and she got back to me within 10 minutes!) and she said she thought it would be best, given his size, to take him to the emergency animal hopsital.

We did (and had the MOST pleasant experience possible - immaculate, nice staff, excellent vet) and they called ASPCA's poison control. The toxicity number for Larry David would be 55 and he was at 41.8. So, he was under the toxic number which was excellent news. The next area of concern was the aluminum foil in his belly, they were worried about it obstructing his bowels. We had to give him canned pumpkin (works sort of like barium does in people) to "push through". He had a very bad time last night but managed to get out a little ball of alumninum foil. It'll probably be a fairly rough week but in the end, he's ok. It was scary as all hell though.

I was sooooooooo upset on the way to the vet. It was my fault, I left them where he could get to them, never thinking. I told DH I shouldn't be allowed to own pets after LD because I get waaaaaaaay too attached. Chat Icon Chat Icon

Aww....poor little guy Chat Icon
I've done the same type of thing - left food out that Bama was able to get at, and he got very sick. I hate when that happens, but it was just an accident so try not to feel so bad! It sounds like he's going to be just fine Chat Icon

Thanks Chat Icon

I took him to Elmhurst Emergency Animal Hospital on Queens Blvd (we live in Forest Hills). They were really SOOOOOOO wonderful. The vet's name was Dr. Reba, he was great.

It was soooo sad though... a dog died while we were there. Apparently he'd been battling kidney failure for a while. DH and I were in the exam room when the vet called for the nurse that was helping us. We could hear the beep beep beep of the monitor and I said to DH "I wonder if that's for that dog". Well, about 3 minutes after I said that it just went "Beeeeeeeeeep". I started hysterical crying (we had no idea how bad LD was at this point). The family was there, I felt so terrible for them Chat Icon Chat Icon
