Just finished: "Welcome to Shirley, Memoirs from an atomic town" by Kelly McMasters
This is a great book for anyone living remotely close to that area. Deals with Cancer, polution, and heart problems.

I went through this thread last week for ideas on reading materials and borrowed this from my library based on your post.

I'm only halfway through and I'm horrified. I never lived south of BNL but I'm just floored by the whole thing. I'm supplementing my reading with searches on the internet.

Every time I pick it up, I want to Chat Icon

Thanks for the recommendation, it's very interesting reading, but scary too!

I know! It is scary because I have 5 family members that WORK at the lab for all more than 10 years and 2 at 22 years!

Also my family lives in the condo's across from BNL on William Floyd. (I lived in there for 11 years)

Agreed... I finished it yesterday and even though I saw it coming, I didn't see it coming and I got all upset. I hate when my book club picks books like this. Chat Icon

I just finished reading A Thousand Spendid Suns. It was one of those books that I kept passing in the book store, but yet everyone raved about it. I thought it was a really good book and highly recommend it.

I think I'm going to start reading Lost Symbol.
