One of my all time favorite feel good books is "Crossing to Safety" by Wallace Stegner. It is an old book, but one of the best stories about friendship I think I have ever read. If you liked "A Tree Grows in Brooklyn", I think you will like this one too. Others I have read recently were "Blessings" by Anna Quindlen and "The Secret Life of Bees" by Sue Monk Kidd.If you want something funny, I like Laurie Notaro. Her books are autobiographical and they are short essays. the first is called "The Idiot Girls Action Adventure Club" and they are stories of her single days, going out to bars, dealing with her wacky family (her mom is addicted to QVC and her nana to Lifetime TV movies). I like all of her books - thye make me laugh out loud. Message edited 10/29/2005 10:40:55 PM. Posted 10/29/05 10:36 PM |

The Glass Castle is on my Zooba list- I am looking forward to it. I just finished Dance of Death by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Childs. Excellent suspense/thriller. Am trying to finish The Jane Austen Book Club, I was really excited to get this book and it's been a disappointment, but it has made me want to read Austen. Then I am on to The Dante Club. I wasn't thrilled by the Jane Austen Book Club either, but did finish it. I read great reviews, but didn't think the book was all that great. I do like Austen. Pride and Prejudice is my favorite, and I also really liked Persuasion and Mansfield Park. Posted 11/3/05 8:03 PM |

dpli- I also added the Stegner book to my Amazon wish list- it sounds like a wonderful book and reminded me to also dig out A Tree Grows in Brooklyn to read to my students. That is my favorite book ever! Posted 11/3/05 8:58 PM |

I read about 50 pages of the Dante Club and changed my mind. It was really small print making it a difficult read and it really wasn't that interesting. Posted 11/7/05 1:18 PM |
