I just finished The Emporer's Children by Claire Massud

How did you like this? I picked it up and got about 50pgs into it and put it down. Didn't interest me at all.

Same with Atonement - having a hard time getting into it.

Not eroxgirl (obviously Chat Icon) but I didn't understand the purpose of this book at all. I was surprised that it got such rave reviews.

That's how I feel - "what's the point?".

I don't get the story...and question if there really is one Chat Icon

The Crimson Petal and the White

It's really long. I am about 550 pages in and it is losing my interest, but I feel like I need to finish it.

I am in the middle of reading Harry Potter & The Deathly Hollows and after that I am going to read Jane Eyre (one of my all time favorite books).

The Absitnense Teacher by Tom Perotta. A very good book that makes you think (similar to Jodi Piccoult) about a high school health teacher and what can and cannot be taught to our kids in public school. Could not put it down the other night.

HATED IT! It bored me. It literally put me to sleep. I didn't actually finish it and I can count on one hand the number of books I've started that I haven't finished, whether I've liked them or not. I got to the very end (I think I have about 30 pgs left) but I was reading it for my book club and hadn't finished it by the time of the meeting, and since then have had no desire to read the rest.

My book club was left with the same question - why is this book winning awards? I think it's because of the 50 cent words throughout. Chat Icon

Although I did take note of the use of 'normality' instead of the more common and incorrect 'normalcy.' This makes Claire Massud one of 3 people who are aware of this...my father and I are the other two. Chat Icon

The Echo Maker by Richard Powers.

National Book Award winner, Pulizer finalist...but I've been skimming whole pages here and there because it just goes on and on about who knows what.
