Say Something Nice Or Nothing At All: Words To Live By To Keep Your Love Alive

By Mia Bolaris-Forget

I recently had a conversation with another couple that just like us, dinner conversations usually revolve around things that need o be taken care of, or in their case, the kids. And, they agreed that it’s quite the change from dating when both parties are able to make small talk for hours. Still some couples (it seems one of my brother in laws and his wife, even after years of marriage) seem to enjoy hanging out together, and can have fun just watching a movie. In fact, they seem to still be a happy couple very much still in love.

Their secret, according to experts, is not good communication, but rather a “positive” attitude. Rather than focusing on how they’ve grown and changed, each focuses on what was attractive about the other person in the first place.

They note that just five positive remarks can offset the damage done by one negative comment/thought. And, they suggest finding between 7 and 20 supportive remarks to keep your relationship hot.
