Summer may be half way over, but there’s plenty of summer left, especially for those who still have some getting away to look forward to.

But, whether you’re heading out to your local beach or you’re heading out of town, there are certain essentials necessary for sunning and surfing that you don’t want to leave home without.’

1. A Red Hot Beach Bag: Canvas bags in a multitude of colours with a beachy attitude are all the rage. Think also about embellishing yours with a touch of your own personality, such as ribbons, bows or monogrammed initials

2. A Mini Beat Box: While the colours may be retro, these new music machines are the epitome of modern technology. Think MP3 rather than boom box for your tunes. And, don’t forget the waterproof speakers for times when you have a crowd.

3. Shady Ideas: It’s just as important to protect your eyes against the sun, as it is to protect your skin from the potentially harmful UV rays. So, a good pair of sunglasses is definitely a good idea. In fact, if the “cool” factor is big with you, experts suggest in having more than one pair. Not only will you have something to match your outfits and mood, you’ll also have a backup (that you like) in case you break or lose your “primary” pair.

4. Hattitude:
5. Chic Cover Ups: I remember my mom use to wear them and she’d be happy that they’re back again. These comfy, cotton, terry cloth covers not only look cute, but are a great way to dry off and keep classy and covered once you emerge from the pool.

6. Beachy keen shoes: If you plan on taking things in stride, mostly beach or poolside, you’re going to need some “sexy” but sensible poolside footwear. Think flip-flops and other such beachside sandals.

7. Towels With “Tude”: Make a bold statement with bold and beautiful beach towels that can double as a marker, making it easy to find your spot.

8. Proper Protection: A little vitamin D goes a long way (as far as health experts are concerned) and so does a little colour. But, they add, the key to getting a “healthy” glow is also protecting yourself from the sun’s UV rays with sunscreen. Think natural products or those with a reputable name and reputation. And, make sure to reapply as needed, especially once you come out of the pool
