Every employer wants employees that are happy, enthusiastic and that he/she can count on. But, employees that are lethargic, “bored”, or out sick (frequently) can cut back on payroll but can also cut into productivity and revenue.

And, it’s for these reasons that more and more employees are combining work and play at the office. In fact, more and more bosses are getting creative and ingenious about incorporating a little downtime for physical activity into the normal workday.

Some companies offer their employees gym memberships as part of the healthcare plan (even for employees who work from home), others access to bicycles that can be ridden outdoors (when the weather is good) and some even have walking paths implemented near the building encouraging their staff to get up and get out during lunch. And, still others implement bocce courts, basketball courts or onsite gyms and/or weight rooms.

And, according to the experts, employers can spur additional saving with low cost initiatives including showers, lockers, bike racks, etc. encouraging (local) employees to walk, bike, jog or skate to work (and get ready for business once they’re actually at the office).

Additionally, more relaxed dress codes and office attire are can often be an incentive for professionals to consider alternate modes of “transportation” to and from work.

And, with the latest in business trends being a flex-time schedule, employees may also find they have more time for themselves and doing what they want to do or know that they should do including heading out for some exercise.

Finally, some adamant employers are even taking advantage of area services and bringing in a trained fitness profession each day or a few days at lunch, motivating their employees to literally move ahead in the company.
