If you’ve ever watched MTV Cribs, you know that the boudoir is frequently referred to as the room where “the magic happens”. And, the reality is the most of us spend at least one third of our life in bed, making it one of the most important rooms in our house, for rest, relaxation, our health, and the health of our relationship.

With that said, experts agree that making this room of romance and respite one that is appealing and comfortable, creating the just the right mood for that “special retreat”. Start with the floors and walls, choosing muted tones that are calming and tranquil such as mocha brown, charcoal grey or soft blue. Add extra ambiance with some soft drapery, preferably curtains that span from floor to ceiling, adding height to your room. Plus, they are ideal for extra privacy. Last, but not least, don’t forget a warm and wonderful area rug or carpe for a hint of warmth and character.

Give your bed a “facelift” with some sensational bedding that call you to your room and to your “ultimate destination”. Think “luxury” with soft sheets and a plush comforter, distinctive duvet, or comfy quilt. And, don’t forget the fluffy throw pillows and a warm robe at the foot of the bed that help set the mood and tone for unwinding and relaxing.

Dim all the lights, without making the room too dark. From retailers to restauranteurs and hoteliers, these pros all agree that in many instances charm and appeal is all in the ambiance and lighting. Make sure yours creates an environment that’s warm and inviting.

Take hospitality hints from haute hotels. Turn your bedroom into a grande suite by adding a few “simple” but sophisticated pieces. Think corner chair or a bench at the foot of the bed and a few strategically placed pictures over the bed, even a sofa (if you have room) for a look of leisure and luxury.

Add beautiful and bold belongings that catch your eye. The key here is incorporating items that make the room feel like “home” and the “entice” you to be there. In fact, your bedroom should be an extension of who YOU are, reflect your interests and your personality and be pleasantly pleasing to you (and your mate, of course).
