Most women can’t wait to get pregnant, but many “fear”, even “dread” the idea of their body changing shape. Sure there are some who make pregnancy look pretty, even trendy, even encouraging others to anticipate a baby bump they can display. Still, for many plus-size moms-to-be, the idea of a marvelous little midriff may be more of a “fantasy” than a reality as some may experience “anxiety” on whether of not anyone is “able to tell”.

But, according to experts, yours isn’t the only “hidden little secret”. In fact many of your skinnier sisters go through a phase referred to as “invisible pregnancy” where they either don’t show or simply seem slightly more thick and bloated, as opposed to pregnant.

Still, professionals point out that for (some) plus-sized brides, this stage may be more difficult because they feel and even look different (to themselves) but not necessarily to society, which may fail to notice and/or ackowledge their special condition. They suggest offering YOURSELF validation by treating yourself specially and doing exciting things revolving around your baby and your pregnancy. And, they suggest letting go of any negative stereotype or perception you may feel the world has of you or you may have of yourself and embracing your pregnancy, even becoming vocal about it. Here are a few things to take the focus off you (and perhaps your added weight) and put turn the attention in a positive way on your baby (and you).

· Ask for a seat and don’t forget to mention that you are expecting.

· Don’t hesitate to touch your tummy, wear a maternity outfit, or peruse maternity and baby stores.

· Comment on others peoples children and then let the mother (or father) know when you are due.

· Don’t be afraid to forego the alcohol at lunch or dinner and mention that you are holding back due to pregnancy.
