Newbies LIst of Answered Questions

There seems to be a whole bunch of new people joining us. For those who are new - welcome.

I was wondering if those who are not so new list some of the things newbies should do when starting to TTC. There seems to be a lot of "What do I need to do to get started" questions and thought that maybe this post could be brought up to answer their questions. So "not so new" people, please add what newbies should know to get started.

Re: Newbies LIst of Answered Questions

Start taking pre-natal vitamins. They don't have to be prescription, generic will do just fine.

Schedule a visit with your gyno and let them know you are TTC.

Re: Newbies LIst of Answered Questions

When you BD don't get up for 20 minutes

Try all the "sure fire things" (preseed, Barilla pasta, Robitussen) if it makes you feel better, but it all comes down to timing/your body etc.

Slow down your caffeine intake now

Definitely start your prenatals

Don't test too early or you'll drive yourself crazy!

Re: Newbies LIst of Answered Questions

Go off BC and be patient while your cycle adjusts. It typically takes a few months.

Check out the book Taking Charge of Your Fertility

Use mymonthlycycles.com or fertilityfriend.com to help you track your cycles

Use OPK's (ovulation predictor kits) to get an understanding of when your ovulating

I didn't do the prenatal vitamins but did/do take multi-vitamins and folic acid

ETA: Dont make yourself crazy by reading into every possible symptom. AND don't test until you're at least 12 DPO (days past ovulation). It's so easy to get obsessed with this!

That's my two cents Chat Icon

If you have any feeling at all you might have a problem conceiving, see a doctor ASAP. (for example, you have irregular cycles)

Keep track of symptoms every month. This way you can see what is normal for your body and what is not. You will not drive yourself crazy each month thinking if it's a preggo sign each month.

Re: Newbies LIst of Answered Questions

take prenatals as soon as you think you may TTC in the coming months

Take a DHA supplement

as much as a pain as it is to do, it really is worth it to do an OPK kit at least once, even if your cycle is regular. Do it in the afternoon or evening, not in the AM.

Chart your cycle! Keeping track of it will make things a lot easier in the long run.

If your leutal phase is short (under 10 days-makes it difficult for the fertilized egg to implant before AF), some women could extend it by taking a B complex vitamin (increasing chances they will become pregnant). Make sure all the B's are there!

Preseed is great if you have dryness issues while Bd'ing Chat Icon
