Do you eat meat on Holy Thursday or Holy Saturday?
If you don't eat meat on Fridays in Lent do you include these days too? I know my parents don't but they are always making up extra stuff LOL

I don't avoid all meat, just red meat. And my meals are significantly smaller, although I do not fast.

Good Friday was the only "non-meat" day growing up (Lutheran)

Re: Do you eat meat on Holy Thursday or Holy Saturday?
I do not eat meat on fridays all of lent... not to mention my DH is Greek Orthodox and his Easter is next weekend, so i will go and not eat meat next Friday as well.
This year they were only one week apart, but when GO Eater and our Easter is 4 weeks apart that is a killer for me b/c that is like almost 3 months of no meat fridays
ETA: I also did not eat meat on Spy Wednesday

Re: Do you eat meat on Holy Thursday or Holy Saturday?
Thanks for answering everyone. DH made plans for us to go out for burgers on Good Friday! HEATHEN! LOL
So I asked him to change it to Saturday but then I was thinking maybe that wasn't good either. . . but I should be safe!

Agreed- these are the official rules. I know other people make up more and add their own but if you are looking to follow the actual laws of the Church, this is correct and you can eat meat today and Saturday.

This is why I am always confused. My parents do not eat meat any Friday - the entire year! Fridays in Lent they fast and they also do not eat meat starting the Wednesday of Holy Week until Saturday.
They also don't eat any meat on Christmas Eve and fast until our dinner that evening.
So since I grew up with THOSE rules, I never know what is actually required.

I'm Catholic but I don't abide by the "meat" rules regarding Lent. It is a man made rule.

From what I know- back in the "old days" the rule was no meat on ANY Friday. (not sure about xmas eve- that might just be a cultural tradition in some cultures) The Vatican then "changed" the rules to loosen them up a bit... making no meat on Friday a rule only during Lent...

Yup - was going to say the same thing.
You don't have to abstain or fast today or Saturday, but it's always ice to do if you want.

Yeah, before Vatican II, it was no meat any friend. Vatican II changed it to just during Lent.
I don't eat meet on Fridays during lent and I don't eat it on Ash Wednesday. I do eat it on Holy Thursday and Saturday.

Thanks for posting this - DH was trying to convince me this morning that we're not supposed to eat meat today and I was like ... I just sent him the link
Now, can someone please clarify something else for me? The no meat rule, is that ONLY red meat? Or does it include chicken, pork, etc? I was raised that it means NO kind of meat at all (not just red meat) and DH was raised that he could have chicken. What is the church's rule?

Tilde I know what you mean. I think my mom makes rules up sometimes too must be a European thing. My mom will call me on Friday at 9am and ask me what i had for lunch . When I say it's 9am she will say oh wow I didn't realize it was so early remember no meat today . She didn't call me today so I think a horse dinner will be acceptable.

This is correct. However, many people still observe no meat on Fridays for a variety of reasons. For example, many people abstain on Fridays in connection with their pro-life beliefs. I have one friend who has been doing this since high school.
