Are trucks allowed on the SOB Expressway / Rte 135?

I know trucks aren't allowed on the parkways like the Meadowbrook, Southern State, Northern State, etc. Does anyone know if trucks are allowed on the Seaford Oyster Bay expressway (NY-135) or if that is also a parkway that is closed to trucks?

Thanks in advance. Chat Icon

Yes trucks can go on the SOB (nice initials).

Pick up trucks are also allowed on the parkways now.

As far as I know, they still do not allow pick up trucks with commercial plates, which larger trucks like ours are required to have.

ETA - and they aren't allowed when hauling a trailer.

Yep nothing with commercial plates on parkways. The SOB is an expressway, so it is ok.

Yes, and I just found this in case anyone finds this thread by searching in the future. Chat Icon

Pickup trucks and vans are permitted on controlled-access parkways under the following conditions:

They must have passenger car plates.

They must be used only for non-commercial purposes.

They must have an empty (unladen) weight of 5,500 pounds or less.

Pick up trucks with passenger plates can go on parkways. They can't have a trailer.

Here is a brochure of all the restricted roads.

Thanks for the info.

My truck has commercial plates (not passenger plates). It's also over the maximum gross vehicle weight (which is why it has commercial plates to begin with). I'm 100% sure it's not allowed on the parkways, even without the trailer attahed.

Easy to remember:

If it's called a parkway, it's passenger cars only (or small trucks with passenger car plates)
If it's called an expressway, commercial vehicles are allowed.
