My dog won't go to the bathroom in the snow - help!
He won't go in the snow. I usually let him out in the backyard, but he won't even go near the door.
Yesterday morning I took him out in the front where we cleared the walkway and the driveway, and he peed there. We've done that with him again about 4 or 5 times yesterday and then again this morning, and he won't go!
This means he hasn't gone to the bathroom in 24hrs. What do I do??
I have him locked in the crate because I don't want him peeing or pooping in the house, but I feel awful.

Daisy is the same way!
This is how we got around it. We had to shovel a walkway (down to the grass) in the backyard. PITA I know, but it works. This way, she can walk around on the grass surrounded by snow, but able to find her scent in various areas and do her business. Then she quickly comes back in after she does both her businesses.
Make sure to praise the dog when he does "go" so he understands what he did was a good thing!

the roads are awful, there is no way I could get the stroller out on them.

maybe I'll try doing this when the babies are napping, but it won't be easy since we have a patio in front of the grass.
sigh.
he's going to get a kidney infection if he doesn't pee.

I am glad he went!!
Did he pee and poo?
Dogs are just so particular about where they go! My dogs won't crap in my yard even if they had to....I guess they eventually would burst but they are so used to their walks. Same with some dogs and grass, they gotta have it.

my dog was the same way in the snow. the path to a grass patch was the only thing that would work. we used to shovel that first before anything else

when someone's around to watch DC, i take him on walks where i know other dogs have peed so of course he HAS to pee there too! go by neighbors house that have dogs....

I let him out again this afternoon. He went to the patch I had cleared and then all of a sudden jumped in the snow and then started running all around the backyard and did his business, then continued to jump all through the snow. I guess he decided he likes the snow after all.
